Just say there was no (mass effect 3 spoilers) crucible, plot device or whatever.
What would it take to defeat The Reapers and their entire armada in a fair, conventional battle?

They said the reapers would darken the skies of every world, so they probably count in the billions if not trillions. And each one is exceedingly powerful. Not indestructible though

what's the distinguishing factor of Reaper warships

I didn't play Mass Effect so I don't know their full capabilities

Do they have strong energy shields? Do they have supercharged weaponry? Do they have very accurate warp-in tech (a la Covenant in Halo)? Do they have a massive number of weapon emplacements (a la Star Destroyers in Star Wars)?

All of that minus the warp tech. Actually they might be able to warp.
They don't have a massive amount of weapons, but Id' say one of the lasers from a larger reaper could take out a star destroyer.
And yeah, they are legion. Definitely billions of them if not more.

I mean it seems like they created a navy that wasn't meant to be beaten in-story

So if these ships are capable of producing Death Star laser beams willy nilly I don't see how any other fictional fleet could handle it

Definitely not meant to be beaten in-universe conventionally.

yeah, the concept of the reaper was literally meant to be 'evil precursor who eats you'

and probably their most relevant power wasn't the ship-slicing laser but the onboard processing facility that turned captives into slave soldiers

Banana_Cyanide posted...
There is nothing more OP than Warhammer 40K. To give an example The Imperium of Man have in their arsenal a weapon called a Cyclonic Torpedo. Just one of these dropped on a planet will completely incinerate the biosphere (I'm talking water literally burning) and destabilising said unfortunate planets core effectively killing the planet to death.

do these sorts of things actually have any direct relevance to 40k tabletop matches? i always figured 40k tabletop worked like mordheim (warhammer regular setting) tabletop: smallish squads of individual units executing opposing missions

These factions might have a chance.

Imperium or Tyranids from 40K
Empire from Star Wars
Borg from Star Trek if they learn to adapt.

The Borg will join The Reapers because they can give them what they want the most.

I don't know enough about the game itself to say for certain but I'm sure there's one that involves ship to ship combat.

No, Empire would not be able to.
Give how these Reapers can apparently just ram through capital ships with no damage to themselves

Star Wars capital ships aren't capable of hitting other ships without suffering massive damage to themselves, especially at high velocity

Basically what I'm hearing/reading is that basically each Reaper capital ship is an Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyer in a compact 2km body

And supposedly they have enough to cover the skies of every planet lol

So I just looked it and apparently you can initiate an Exterminatus during a tabletop game but it requires a specific troop build at about 3000 points or so.

How many Reapers are there really

Because there's a lot of ships in Star Wars and The Last Jedi indicates that they could cripple them all pretty easily

I think even the Tau would annihilate them, but Chaos/Imperium and Nids would engage in wholesale slaughter. Imperators are the same size, and 70% of the imperium's ships are bigger.
