He's surprisingly pretty bland, and not particularly good with his guests unlike Conan. I also think if he wanted to focus so much on politics he should have stuck with TCR.

To be fair, he tried to not be overly political at first. But that's what people wanted, and that's what he's comfortable with.

I think Colbert is probably really smart, but I don't enjoy his political commentary very much. I agree that the Colbert Report was better.

It's exhausting watching his show now, even if you also don't like Trump. It's like, you just go brain dead after a while. And it's true, he's not great with guests.

i don't watch late night tv as it airs but i sometimes watch videos after the fact. Colbert seems awful on network tv.

LWT is a public service wrapped up in a bit of light [albeit highly stylized] humor. It can be depressing at times though to see all the shady shit that happens the moment public attention isn't directed on various entities.

his late night show has to cater to a different audience. He's kind of lowered the age of the Late Show's viewers but the show itself still caters to 35-60 year olds who are looking for Hank Hill Humor.

I miss Dave (though his Netflix eps are great). Supposedly they didn't even ask him who would be good for his seat when he was gone, they went and chose Colbert without his input.

Some comedians just aren't as funny when they have to step out from behind the veneer of a character. Even when he was on the Daily Show (as well as his various voiceover work), on some level he was always playing an arrogant and borderline-oblivious caricature. I haven't seen much of his late night stint, but I have to assume that he has to be more earnestly himself, especially with guests. Maybe he just doesn't have the chops for that.
