Nah, LA is forever a Lakers town, no matter how good the Clippers are and how bad the Lakers are. If he wants to be the king of LA, he needed to become a Laker.

I mean the thing is, he's too far along in his career to play for LA. He'll never surpass Kobe's legacy there, or Magic's. It's such a bizarre move, because I had ruled this out when George resigned and the Spurs made it clear the Lakers were almost certainly not getting Kawhi. I can't really imagine Lebron is going to spend the rest of his career basically stuck with Lonzo Ball.

More than they'll get if they let him walk away next year for nothing.

The Spurs have the leverage for now, but they won't have it for long. It seems like the Lakers are the only team realistically in play at this point since Boston doesn't appear to want to trade for Kawhi with no guarantee he re-signs.

Magic resigned Gordon to 4 years 84m. Happy at that. Not too unreasonable and tradable down the line if it doesn't work out. Would have preferred 5 but it is what it is.

even if we trade him to the sixers, it doesn't mean he has to stay there. he has 1 year left on his contract and then he's free to do whatever he wants. if sixers want to risk it on the rental becoming permanent i suppose it's possible but i'm not sure that's wise

This is just such a puzzling move from LeBron.

I guess if he's over trying to win championships and just wants to live in sunny LA and have fun through the twilight of his career that's cool and all but

Eh, LeBron might have left eventually anyway. His only goal was to win a title for Cleveland, and it's no secret that he and Dan Gilbert don't like each other.

So it looks for now like the Lakers are going to hold pat, let their young core develop alongside LeBron and try to make it as far as possible this year.

And then next year bring in the big guns Kawhi and Jimmy Butler.

After that they'll have a pretty good idea about who will be a flop and a star out of the Lonzo/Ingram/Kuzma trio.

I can't fucking wait for the season already! :D
