Especially for mental disorders such as depression, anxiety, etc.

I like to think they work but I don't want people to hold my hand all the time...It makes me feel like a burden to them.

I may be a bit biased since I'm in the field, but yes - especially if you find a therapist you feel comfortable talking to. More importantly, ALL therapists (at least ethical ones) are going to help you sustain the positive changes on your own, so don't worry about "having them hold your hand all the time" :)

To put it another way, therapists are going to work towards the point you can fire them :P

If it's really bad, just get a psychiatrist instead.

There's limits to what they can do. I mean, at the end of the day you're just in an office talking to someone. You got to follow what they tell you
