Because 2 > 1 would be my guess. Basically everything was better in 1 except Big the Cat.

Sonic Adventure 1 did really feel like more an adventure than 2, but I still think 2 played better on all aspects.

Generally the reason I see thrown around is the story, which is the closest Sonic got to some kind of horrible Naruto knockoff so I guess I see why people would enjoy that

Sonic controlled a lot better in 2 than 1. The only downside was SA1 Sonic having a better spin dash.

But that better spin dash made the game SO much more fun to play as Sonic because you could be way faster. Outside of buggy bouncy ability shenanigans in 2.
