for one example I think the Khajit should be distrusted even as the player character. it's weird in skyrim when many cities are racist to khajit but if you are one, they treat you differently. make it so that if your a khajit you are banned from some areas and have to sneak in. and some npc's have negative interactions with you. maybe a merchant refuses to deal with you, or at very unfair prices.

I got the idea from the old vampire game Bloodlines, where one of the clans looks like a monster and you can't even walk around in public openly without breaking the Masquerade and getting in trouble

...because you're the dragonborn. And, if you're being truly realistic, you wouldn't be able to just sneak into a city or town if Khajiit were outright banned (and, even in places where Khajiit travelers are made to camp outside the city, it's not clear that they'd be banned from visiting there or permanently living there). Even if you somehow got in (far easier said than done, if you're being realistic), you'd be severely limited in terms of being able to do anything in the city itself and anybody who saw you would likely report you to the guard.

iirc, wasn't that how the vamp mechanics are handled in some Elder Scrolls games depending on how much you let your appearance change?

I wouldn't want anything like not being able to enter certain areas or not being able to trade to a merchant because that's not fun to me. I do agree that racist areas and people treat the player character a little too normally though. I'd love more huffy responses, patronizing attitudes, etc when you're one of the animal races.

I really want more flavor between the elves too, really. There is no active in game cultural differences between them that I've seen. Just what sound people put before mer when talking to them. :P

Sounds interesting, but it would make the game outright unplayable with some races. Unless they did that only to a few specific areas, meaning that each race had exclusive access to some stuff in the game.

there would be work arounds in the game for things. like I said, you could sneak into certain areas. my idea goes beyond just the khajit. I want a unique experience for each race. there would be stuff for each race that changes how you play the game

Which is kind of weird given their respective histories and differences in appearance (although I think orcs get treated differently). Granted, I seem to recall a few Dunmer NPCs discussing discrimination.

Then again, I've only ever played as Khajiit and Breton in Skyrim (and Argonian in Oblivion) so I'm not really sure what the interactions may be for some of the elven races (although, come to think of it, I might have played 5-10 hours as a wood elf first and I can't remember anything all that different).

I usually play Dunmer, Breton, Nord, or Khajiit. I've also played Altmer and Bosmer sometimes. Never really have played as an Argonian, Orc, or Redguard in any of the games.

And yeah, other than the stats and specials, the elves feel the same. Like a few differences if you're not the prevailing race, but nothing... interesting.

That would be neat and what anyother RPG developer would do, but Bethesda seems incapable of adding features or mechanics that a brain dead Toddler couldn't understand.

Still excited for it though.

You can go through 95% of the game being a total nobody and not getting powers and nobody will treat you differently.

tbh, being able to play as an Argonian was one of the big things that got me interested in the franchise. Can't remember if I didn't go with it in Skyrim more because I didn't like the character model or because Skyrim doesn't have that many watery environments. (Although it's possible I may have made an Argonian first then switched to Wood Elf before eventually settling on a Khajiit.)

On the other hand some guards will let you go if you're a Khajit if you allow them to pet you.

tbh, one of my big wants for an Elder Scrolls game is height options. If I'm playing a warrior, I'd rather be huge and intimidating-looking. If I'm playing a rogue, I'd kinda want the character to be a little smaller than average to make them feel a bit stealthier.
