It's pretty much held steady for the 3rd - 6th generations. The recession made the 7th generation last about 7 years (roughly), but now even the 8th generation has gotten messed up. What's all this improved console nonsense? Why are MS and Sony waiting so long to release proper new consoles? I took comfort from the 5 year cycle. It was predictable; it was nice. Also, 5 years felt about right to me, not too short that you're suddenly buying a new console, or too long, when the graphics get boring, and things haven't chance in ages.

How do other people about this? Happy? Sad? Don't think it's happening?

Most games took 18 months to 3 years, I think. Besides, stuff like BoTW took 5 years, and look at how great that was.

It really blows me away when I saw PS4 is just starting to take off and people say well it's cause games take longer to make like that's a reason for PS5 to come our.

Games take so long to develop now, it's kind of crazy.
I assume anything announced at E3 2018 that didn't have direct game play footage (Halo, for example) will be next gen.

Why are people saying this garbage? Games are a couple of years, usually. Sometimes, especially for AAA titles, it might take 5 years.

I'm sure there are also a few small games that take a year or something to make.

Hell, even the Switch eats indie titles for breakfast.

What can they even improve on for the next consoles within 5 years? It took Sony and Microsoft several years just to put 4k into their systems so they made an updated console instead of a PS5 or Xbox 2.

Its not like a iPhone where you can market the item for being a little faster or removing buttons.
