With President Donald Trump poised to nominate a new Supreme Court justice in the wake of Justice Anthony Kennedys retirement, all eyes are on senators such as Maines Sen. Susan Collins, who is considered a critical vote in the confirmation process. Today, the moderate Republican came under fire after an article in Maines Portland Press Herald reported that the she wont factor a nominees support for the landmark abortion-rights ruling of Roe v. Wade into her confirmation decision. Collins spokeswoman Annie Clark told the paper that Senator Collins does not apply ideological litmus tests to nominees.

Some have interpreted Collins noncommittal stance as a potential threat to Roe v. Wade, which experts believe a more conservative Supreme Court lineup could overturn. In response, Twitter users have posted photos showing that theyre sending metal coat hangersa symbol of the pro-choice movement that evokes the dangers of illegal abortionsto Sen. Collins offices in Washington, DC, and Maine. More have started using the hashtag #HangersForCollins.

Just because you may not like a person being either cautious or apprehensive in making a decision(you really dont know why she hasnt taken a side) doesnt give you the right to disrespect her for it in that manner. This would have a better form of protest if Collins came out and outright said she doesnt give a shit about roe v wade, but she didnt, which just makes this classless act even more worse and intolerant

I dont see you disagreeing with him that theyre indeed killing children, just that theres good justification for killing them given the kind of life they would have if they were ever to grow up. Its a reasonable position, nothing wrong with killing useless human life when theyre just gonna cost us more in the long run.

and a lot of people don't. You're looking on the up side rather than both. You say "lot of" but not "all of". This admits that there are those who live bad lives.

either way, its not necessarily about the bad lives as much as the parent who most likely cannot care for the child. They wouldn't willfully neglect it but its possibly the person would understand its situation.

I'm pro choice but I also wouldn't abort. There IS fear though..what if I have a child with someone I don't love? Someone who would take the kid or worse, sue for child support and then I'm penniless from fees.

That's terrifying but only on my side. The woman is the one having the child. She also has to worry about if she has a career ahead of her, the fact that we don't love each other means we'll have a kid between us and that would ruin any future relationships and what if she's broke and I'm broke? What if both of us aren't parent material? be parents anyway? Suffer and make that child suffer?

It's a good protest.

Collins is already pro-choice. The issue is, pro-choicers know she may sway on a pic. I believe their message is to keep on the no-vote and have this delayed until next year.

Protest does not mean signs. It doesn't mean standing in front of a government building. It doesn't mean blocking traffic or clashing with the fuzz.

Any speaking, any outspoken message, is protest. That's what the word means. It's what it's always meant.

Sending a clear message to an elected official is a form of protest. Collins knows what this message means.
