Whether she's actually telling the truth or not, it appears the hanger protest worked superficially at the very least.

(Reuters) - A key moderate Republican U.S. senator said on Sunday she will not support a nominee to fill a soon-to-be-vacated seat on the Supreme Court who would overturn a key legal ruling that supports a woman's right to abortion.

"I would not support a nominee who demonstrated hostility to Roe v Wade," Susan Collins told CNN's "State of the Union" program, referring to the 1973 landmark decision.

So hopefully this means Pryor, Pirro and Newsom are out of the running. Even if Collins doesn't mean to keep to this, it could make Trump want to pick someone more moderate for fear of getting blocked.

That's not 100% guaranteed. This has a small chance of convincing Trump to go with a less controversial pick. I think, and pretty much everyone I've talked to (liberal or conservative) think Hardiman would be a fair pick. He's certainly not moderate, but he'd probably view Roe v Wade and other decisions as established law. He seems more an economic conservative rather than a social one.

Even so, this shows that protesting works. You think she would have even said this had all those coat hangers not been sent to her?

Unlike Pirro, Newsom, and Pryor, Gorsuch has never actively spoken out against Roe v Wade. Maybe he would overturn it, but if Collins saying this gets those three whackjobs out of the running, I'd call it a victory even if minor.

I mean, why should I put all that much stock in her new opinion, given that she can change it so quickly?

Would you prefer a peaceful protest/demonstration not be effective?
