Its only a real job if it involves taking off your shirt and shaking your boobs. And if you don't have big enough ones, you can always try and file taxes as an indendent contractor and after a few years consider it a work expense the next year.

"Real job" for the most part is something thrown around by super insecure people and/or people that know nothing about the thing they're criticizing or the work and time put into it.

Is taking a shit a job if you get paid for it? People talk about "real jobs" when referring to idiots who make stupid faces on youtube and get paid millions of dollars. Let's not be morons and pretend they're providing value. Of course ass-kissers will defend with, "they provide entertainment!!!1" except they're not getting paid for that. They're getting paid for bringing eyeballs to advertisements. The advertisement industry, as we all know, is a hulking tumor. Being an annoying attention whore is the easiest way to bring eyeballs, so these horrible people win in such a system. This is where the criticism comes from. Not, "ur jealous of the money hurr hurr". Not, "ther doing something they love so ur JEALOUS!!11 durr hurr". It's, "they're obnoxious people doing stupid shit for way too much money and we're not going to pretend it's not stupid".

The benefit to advertisers is dubious as well because the "more eyeballs = more sales" is not necessarily true. This was the mantra of the dot-com boom where entire companies were built on getting "eyeballs" and we all know how that turned out. This is one reason why the "adpocalypse" happened. Youtube had to adjust in order to better suit advertisers and these stupid-ass youtubers were crying because they felt entitled to their advertising dollars. Here's a tip for these people: GET A REAL JOB.

-provides paid-time-off
-has a health insurance plan
-company stock option at discounted rate
-salary instead of hourly
-incentive compensation plan

This is from my experience working in a career job (engineering and project management field). I wanted to list a college degree, but I know a few store managers who have a degree in criminal justice and psychology.

The post I was waiting for. What you described is a real job, but also a good job.

A job can be a real job because you get paid and you get screwed by taxes. But theres a lot of real jobs that are also shitty jobs due to lack of career advancement, benefits and generally low pay.

I'd argue that these are indeed real jobs. Waiters and servers have to have good customer service and learn how to multitask. There are also people who have absolutely no idea how to bag groceries and I respect the ones who do. The bread should not be in the same bag as the jar of pickles Josh!
