Girl told me that she works 8-6 but also gets an extra day off, so that she is mostly working 4 day weeks.

Which of those would you prefer?

8-6 by far

The current office culture routine needs to die

Alternatively I would be okay doing M/Tu 8-6, taking Wednesday off, then Th-F 8-6 (then normal weekend).

I do think that a break in the middle of the week would be great. I had that in college, Wednesdays off, and I felt so much more fresh and energized.

8-6 four days a week for sure. The extra 2 hours is negligible when your day is mostly fucked after commuting and traffic on the way home.

Many good employers generally give 10 hour shifts with Saturday and Sunday off with another day in between like Wednesday so their employees dont burn out and start to resent their job.

most places don't actually schedule people for 8 hours in a day because then 5 minutes extra becomes overtime for the week

Many salaried white collar jobs mandate a 1-hour lunch break, which means the typical 8-hour work day actually runs 8-5, so a 10-hour day would run 7-6 or 8-7. I'd still much prefer that, though. An additional day of eliminating the commute and dress code would be welcomed. Having a traditional work day off would also be helpful when running errands and scheduling appointments, and squeezing a mini vacation out of a three day weekend is actually quite doable.

When I was hourly, hour lunch didn't count towards total hours worked. So you would be "at work" for for 8.5 or 9 hours, but have an unpaid 30 or 1hr lunch break scheduled in between.

40 hours, four days in a six day long week would be perfect for me, but that's not possible under the seven day week system this world has developed.

Depends on what activities you like. For me, many art galleries close at 6 so I would miss a lot in that regard if I worked until 7. Many evening classes start at 6:30, so I wouldn't be able to do those classes.

8-6 four days a week, and it's not even close. Having an extra free day more then makes up for working two extra hours each day.
