I remember my biology teacher saying if someone designed the human body with an intelligent thought process, they absolutely sucked at designing a good body

this exactly. you can actually see the ridiculousness of such a statement in action in this video of a demonstration by Richard Dawkins of the evolutionary development of the laryngeal nerve in giraffes:

(warning: it is a dissection of an actual giraffe corpse, so nsfw or whatever)

Years ago I probably would have felt the same. I'm not a teenager anymore and recognize that my feelings mean nothing to anyone else and that regardless of how I feel about it, religion exists and therefore it is valuable to understand it. Nowadays, I still consider myself an atheist, but I have a strong interest in paganism as a placebo sort of system. Religion should really be more of an art form than a science.

no one is arguing that understanding religion isn't valuable. hell, understanding any and every facet of human society and culture is valuable in some way or another. i've studied multiple religions extensively, even though i am atheist. i've probably studied christianity more than most christians have lol.

It's implied by the OP. I wasn't calling you out on it.

The passion people have for a concept that is meaningless is astounding. I'm talking both sides of the fence. Ultimately, it does not matter. Now is all that matters. Until you're dead. People dedicate their lives and energy to make sense of the nonsensical. Death is the only true guarantee.

what?

There are tribes in Africa who make their necks longer. Giraffes have long necks. In other words humans can modify their bodies.

Thats such a strawman lol

nope. i don't think you even know what that word means, because it is absolutely inapplicable in this context.

There are very few religious people that say because they believe in God, scientists should not explore the origins of the universe.

wtf is this shit? are you even consciously aware of the ridiculous word salad that is spewing out of your brain?

The truth is that science is never going to answer these questions, because these are questions beyond empiricism.

the "truth", eh? lmfao that's fucking rich. some random ignorant armchair preacher thinks he knows the objective and immutable endpoint of science. where the fuck do you get off making such a fucking stupid and backwards-ass claim as this?

You must be a child to have to resort to inflammatory language to argue your points.

Not worth my time. Bye bye, grasshopper!

Obviously you're trolling, but as a fellow agnostic that's a real asshole thing to do and merely serves to perpetuate the stereotype of the angsty fedora tipping atheist.

I don't even understand how that even became a stereotype. I don't know religious people. Everyone I associate with is atheist or agnostic. I've never even seen a fedora in real life, only on tv and the internet.

And it's noteworthy, too, that it tore from top to bottom. The curtain being torn basically meant the void between God and man had been reconciled by Jesus' death.
