I'm going to Canada for the first time pretty soon here and every country has its own tipping etiquette. Are you supposed to tip at restaurants in Canada?

Where in Canada? Quebec might be different from the rest of Canada in regards to tipping.

The bordertowns probably expect tipping due to cultural osmosis over the border... that'd be Vancouver and Toronto.

You are also expected to tip at buffets for some reason...

I don't.

If someone didn't wait on me, I don't give a tip.

I don't.

If someone didn't wait on me, I don't give a tip.

And if someone bitches about it, talk to the manager

Yeah buffets want you to tip in the US too. The amount of things we have to tip for really is getting out of control.

15% if you hated the service, 25% if you liked the service.

I've tipped up to 200% when food items were comped.

15% is pretty standard if you're satisfied. Less if not, more if service was exceptional.

As little as possible. Don't let the garbage tipping culture continue to spread.

Don't they get paid by the hour? Or do they get paid less than minimum wage?

Depends on province. In Alberta, servers got less than minimum wage up until a few years ago.

Well if here in BC they get paid minimum wage or a bit higher then why tip for them doing their job? Why don't all customer service jobs get tips then?

I rarely eat out so I don't tip.

I think tipping is dumb, too. You're preaching to the choir. But I still leave ~10% tip because society says you're a dick if you don't.

I'd rather leave a tip for the kitchen workers, especially the dishwasher, who are getting paid the same shit wage as the waiters but work 10x harder.
