Basically a guy that played football in high school ,worked out for strength gains during freshman and sophomore year of college, and let himself go junior year and forward because classes got more difficult, alcohol and junk food consumption shot up due to turning 21, and probably settled in to a relationship with some sorority girl.

Ok so not outright FAT, I mean elephant-tier bok levels of fat, just a bit of belly but otherwise fine ?
Not Rascal rider category of belly then ? Is the afford-mentioned hair on the belly an intrinsic factor in the expression ?

I remember The Fabulous Moolah talked about Stone Cold Steve Austin and if you remember him, he was pretty close to a dad bod. He was muscular, but didn't really have abs, and there were small love handles. She said back in her day, they called it a "natural body"; someone who wrestled and spent some time working out, but was also eating in diners most nights.

A "dad bod" would be a guy that would be totally fuckable in the 70s or 80s. But now society demands you have six pack abs, those two weird muscle line thingies that go from your belly to each side of your crotch and chiseled pecs.

If you're in shape but not ripped like that, you got a dad bod.

the body fat dudes tell themselves it's ok to have because they are lazy slobs.
