Story: Four pals goin on a road trip!

Thats basically it. You play this easy going, carefree game for the better portion of the game, and then it was like they suddenly realized that theyd forgotten to make a story, so they fit it all in at the same time.

Ignis is blinded, Lunafreya is killed, Noctis becomes even more of a whiny bitch, and Gladiolus viciously blames and fights with him to the point where the player feels the stress and resentment. Prompto just lost his spark. Seriously, this part of the game was just hard to play. The way they rushed all the story at the end reminded me of Xenogears Disc 2.

The characters were just half-assed and uninspired. I kept waiting for Noctis to grow up, but he only got worse. Wtf was that crap about him being in jail for like ten years?? They didnt even try to explain that.

On to the combat. Ive used this comparison before, but the combat in Kingdom Hearts 1 is better. Seriously. The combat never evolved in this game. It was impossible to see where you were or what you were doing because of the trees and other obstacles. The skill trees were effectively useless outside of the accessory ones. It was basically just pressing attack and trying to rotate the camera around to see what youre doing.

Magic was useless. If you use powerful magic, youre going to KO your team, since you cant turn off friendly fire. The only way to get any use from magic is to put most of your points into the magic tree.

The whole car aspect... not a humongous fan, but it really didnt turn me off on the game. I just felt like it inflate your play time, when you couldnt skip the travel scenes. Fishing wasnt fun and I found this game to be without any fun mini games.

Oh, people like openworld games, s-so lets do that for sure!

People are tired of turn based RPGs!! Oh, wait, WE decided that, not the fans!

Yeah, people. Just fucking make a turn based rpg with no horseshit gimmicks. You dont have to do something new. Just give us a good, long game where we can control ALL of our party members.

7-9 is the formula they need to go back to.

Lmao. So instead of refining and fixing their current formula, they need to go back to an aged turn-based system that has very little mass market appeal anymore. What a brilliant strategy that would be for the series.

Im just saying that turn-based RPGs are nowhere close to the dominant genre they were in the 90s to early 00s. Its an incredibly niche role nowadays, and to go back to a turn-based battle system would doom any future titles from a sales standpoint. They wouldnt even stand a chance of breaking even, given the high production values Square demands of its flagship titles.

I love the classic Final Fantasy games as much as the next person, but when I want that nostalgia fix, Ill revisit those older titles. Other than that, the turn-based system is archaic and doesnt belong in a new mainline FF game.

Sounds like the issues with combat are that tc never bothered understanding how the battle system worked and struggled when it's a pretty darn easy game.

The story has its moments but they're either camp site ones or spread out between individual chapters and as such not necessarily worth the wait for the pay-off. I'll agree that a lot of the stuff being done off screen unless you play the dlc chapters is bs. Then there's the fact they added more scenes through updates, and then stopped doing that so they could toss in a dozen more scenes and a few fights as a dlc royal edition version of the story. It's a shameless cash grab to "finally finish" the story that they initially released unfinished, and then did right by starting to fix through free updates. It's just... Ugh. Plus how it relies on you having seen the movie and brotherhood episodes to get a lot of back story. :(

Needed more Iris. At least Aranea got a lot of time to shine in the prompto chapter. Best girl confirmed.

Oh. The ost had its moments but the only battle songs I can remember are the early game battle theme, the mid game one, and the royal arms mode you hear during the button mash slug fest against Leviathan that lasts 5 minutes longer than was necessary.

Well, they must have tried every other type of rpg that exists and a fighting game, and everything has sucked. I just dont think their approach is getting them anywhere. If FFXV is the future of the series, then its over. People will buy the game regardless, but I guarantee that a game just like FFIX would finally get rave reviews from the FANS. Any professional review writer who have that better than a 3/10 was probably paid to do so.

Also, to the guy who said I thought the game was hard: I played it without any difficulty issues. The issues I had were the inexcusable glitches, clumsy terrain, and landscape that obscured the camera.

I mean, how hard is it to press O a whole bunch, anyway? Nice try, though.
