You have...basically two major plot points and then a lot of timed quests become unavailable. You'll soon go on a long trip to a place. After you've finished with all of that, you go somewhere else and after that is when a lot of stuff isn't doable anymore. The description I'm giving should make sense to you once you get closer to that point, trying not to spoil too much.
