I mean that's partially in response to the Pewdiepie controversy and advertisers fleeing.

BUT Pewdiepie already has more than enough money than he'd ever need. And he still has the same platform, with more subs and views than just about anyone. His message is still being consumed. I don't want YouTube to censor him or kick him off the platform or anything like that, mind you. But it is disappointing that he is still looked up to and people want to listen to what he has to say, given what has happened.

There's a difference here.

Chris Benoit is playing a character. He isn't being "Chris Benoit as himself" out there - it is a performance art. I don't begrudge anyone enjoying Seven even though Kevin Spacey is in it because he isn't Kevin Spacey in the film. Mel Gibson using racial slurs doesn't mean that Martin Riggs is a racist.

Pewdiepie is being Pewdiepie. What he is selling is himself. Pewdiepie using racial slurs means that Pewdiepie is a racist. You can enjoy Lethal Weapon without endorsing Mel Gibson's views. You cannot enjoy Pewdiepie's channel without at least, in part, endorsing his views.

My counter is that for other people that have done bad things, you can separate out their art from themselves (well, if you can do that - I don't begrudge anyone who can't). It exists separately from them, and you can view it without endorsing who they are as a person.

Pewdiepie, who obviously isn't as bad as Chris Benoit, isn't the same. His "art" or "product" here is himself. Him using a racial slur necessarily taints the rest of his content because that is just him. His content, quite literally here, is himself and his views.

DrDisrespect is certainly a character, but Pewdiepie (at least modern Pewdiepie) I would say is definitely not.

I view DrDisrespect as sort of like a MirandaSings, where it is someone doing a character on Youtube/Twitch that isn't necessarily reflective of themselves. It gets murky here, I agree.

Pewdiepie isn't even that though.

Old Pewdiepie, maybe. All of his new videos aren't even that any more. Sure, he used to act up how SPOOKY and SCARY Five Nights was or whatever, but he doesn't play games any more. Not in a long time, at least, and not on his youtube channel. He just talks about stuff. "Stupid Twitch thots", memes, random news stuff he complains about, etc etc etc.

It isn't a character anymore, and I'm not sure it has been for a while.

(I never paid attention to him until he became the alt rights favorite youtuber so I don't know exactly when the transformation occurred)

eh, not sure if that logic works for PDP. he specifically made a video to address the fact that he used to play a character in his videos/streams, and stated that he was tired of doing this and was going to be himself from then on.

maybe he's still playing a character in his videos to an extent - i don't watch him much - but from what i've seen in his more recent videos he seems to be acting pretty normally. especially compared to his old stuff, in which he was constantly being super hyperactive and yelling and screaming.

I don't know any Juggalos, but that was certainly the impression I had. I listen to ICP occasionally; they're ok, have never met their fans or felt compelled to paint my face though. I think a tenant I was renting to might have been a Juggalo, though.

Skimming through this, sounds like there is one actual gang in California that happens to listen to ICP music (ok, plausible, not really an indictment on Juggalos as a whole) and that some Juggalos do and deal drugs (I mean...this doesn't really surprise me either).

Mmm...seems like they actually did find some genuine gang activity, spread across enough cities that I don't blame them for investigating it as a possible larger pattern.

Doesn't mean that it is; I would assume a small number of gangs that happen to like ICP music (the wisconsin group also apparently likes Grateful Dead too, and sometimes calls their gang the "dead heads" -- they also call themselves "wicked clowns" sometimes, with a "WC" hand signal, which I find hilarious given that in most of the world WC is the symbol for washroom).

But like...fair enough on the FBI--apparently there are a few isolated gangs that use the ICP look and listen to ICP music, and apparently they are spreading.

I mean, looking at the released documents, this investigation started in 2011, so in Obama's first term.

Not investigating white supremacists was something Trump wanted (so two presidential terms later)--I somehow doubt he actually succeeded, though--it's not like he stopped the FBI from looking into Russia's election meddling. Although he may have reduced the number of investigations/amount of funding directed towards white supremacist investigations.

(Also worth noting that Juggalos are mostly white).

Side note, I dunno why I spent a bunch of time re-typing stuff from that FBI document to quote it, apparently I could have just searched Wikipedia:
