Literally defined their entire entity by reference to a kids TV show and were made to look extremely creepy in the process.

Do they even still exist to any degree of prominence?

Do they regret that time?

Even the creator of the show was legit creeped out by the bronies.

It stopped being an amusing novelty to become downright disturbing

I think they're adorable and it's a cute show

But I'm also a girl, not into them sexually and liking cute things is more socially acceptable on my part than most guys due to western double standards of masculinity

Those dudes bought like, several thousands of dollars worth of pony merchandise. I can understand liking a show and having a couple trinkets in your house, but filling your room with toys like that was fucking weird.

More than a fair share of the people who were bronies after the "I'm a brony but ironically" group left the fandom. Mostly because of the ones who were actually sexually into the ponies.

I could see a lot of people being in the same boat. Big new 'thing' becomes popular, people try get in on the ground floor etc.

At most i tried to be even handed at the time re bronies but they were/are honestly painfully obnoxious. I actually caught a bit of an ep months later and was kinda bemused this has captivated so many grown adults.

I'd love to know what the originating point of the fandom was tbh

Yes I mean the ponies

I don't normally judge but body odor is like, the one thing that disgusts me and I went to job corps with a brony who smelled like... Well, it was bad enough that he was forced into a standards contract to shower more. And he didn't.

Pfh. Loved the show. Now only like the show.
Certainly never "defined my entire identity" around the thing.

Also remember Lauren Faust being quite welcoming.
Hell, I even got to meet her at Nightmare Nights in Dallas.
I'm sure some stupid overzealous fan in particular may have creeped her out.

Either way, just found it cute and funny at times.
Also was kinda surprised with the first episode having a snarky, bookish introvert, and a legit villain.
I kinda assumed all pony stuff was like G3, aka super hyper girly and devoid of substance.
As for the origin of the fandom, I've heard 4chan.

emo is still pretty alive, you probably just wouldn't recognize them if you saw them because most of the musicians look pretty normal. mall scene kids have all grown up and died out though.

i have only encountered 1 brony irl, they always seemed pretty rare to me- the internet just inflated their existence.

there is nothing wrong with a grown man liking a cartoon
there isnt even anything wrong with a grown man liking a cartoon aimed at girls
but its really fucking creepy to call yourself a brony

as for the cartoon ive watched a few episodes over the years but i mainly just go to youtube to listen to the songs they sometimes sing
the show itself it ok but not something id ever get heavily invested in but i really like the musical numbers.

one episode i did watch though was basically an anti brony episode
well not exactly completely anti brony but more anti adults who overanalyze everything and ignore the overall message of the show.

the 6 ponies make a book retelling all their friendship lessons and adult ponies start picking apart everything and complaining but the episode ends with 2 little ponies learning the value of the morals the stories teach.

Is this true?

I could see the incel part because well obviously they were involuntarily celibate but I always sort of thought of the right as more of "I'm a man's man and I watch football ya snowflake" whereas liberals were the accepting "toxic masculinity you can like a show for 8 year old girls if you like".

Pretty much this. I watched the show for the first 3-4 seasons and had a lot of fun doing so. I met a lot of other nice users here because of it, some of which I still talk with even to this day. I was only a casual fan, certainly not one of the super fans that bought merchandise, talked about it a lot in public, or took things way too far and lewded the ponies. Unfortunately, there were a decent amount of those, and those bad apples sometimes made the whole fanbase look bad. It's a shame.

Overall, my time as a MLP fan was awkward at times, but still fun. I look back on that time with a smile on my face. The occasional cringe too, but mostly a smile.

Female fans I'm cool with, they're not all about it and it doesn't define them. Know alt girls who enjoyed it, but also enjoyed other shit like Steven Universe and Adventure Time because of their messages. They don't regret anything.
