Current Events > Did people actually enjoy the long space battles in the original trilogy?

I was watching return of the jedi last night and those bits really seemed to drag. That and the ewok battle. I was just thinking "get on with it!"

Were those scenes really amazing when they first released and that made them hold people's interest? I guess I can understand that.
