People like Downward Thrust and Cleanprincegaming make the same fucking videos every few weeks about why this game is doing so bad or why this game has been doing so good, and unlike most gaming channels these videos can be made without them playing the game in detail because what they're talking about can either be researched or generalized

Ah, I remember when I tried to do one of these channels.

Realized that the popular ones do exactly what TC said with little/no effort, so I gave up on taking it seriously and trying to "do it well"

Agreed, and I dont know if the other essay channels do this too, but its so annoying when he adds those Family Guy or Office clips in there. They were cute at first but now a lot of them dont even relate to the topic that hes talking about.

Really need to do this. Downward Thrust and cleanprincegaming were the exact two names I thought of when I read the topic title.

Mark Brown is pretty good. He's a bit more positive and constructive than most (i.e. he doesn't bash games to show how how unique he is and how refined his taste is).

His GTA V video was really bad about this.

He makes it sound like it's a complete fucking failure and everyone hates it because they didn't do more story, when it's like the complete fucking opposite. GTA Online is still making billions and everyone eats that shit up.

NakeyJakey has been great too. His essays have better placed humor and he always focuses on a specific aspect of gaming (water levels) instead of trying to cover a whole game.

He's the guy always sitting on the medicine ball if you can't recognize him lol

I subbed to Downward Thrust cause I dont remember I think he made some videos about some sort of controversy I was interested in and I found them insightful. And I started watching every video he released and I was okay with what I was seeing. But gradually it all began to sound like the same regurgitated horseshit. I think I lost it and finally unsubbed when he couldn't stop shitting his pants about how God of War is a revolutionary game, acting like the complete abandonment of franchise staples in order to tell a derp and emotional story (but come on, not really) with so much walking isn't even worth mentioning, never mind discussing.

I remember watching some of his E3 2018 coverage and he was absolutely livid with the Square Enix showcase calling it an affront to gamers and a whole bunch of other naughty words, and I was like..

Because they showed off a few games and a little gameplay and then got the fuck off stage? As opposed to spending an hour or two lying to your audience about how good your games are gonna look and sound or have a 40 min propaganda sitdown trying to make Anthem not seem like a complete shitshow and failing miserably?

YouTube auto played cleanprinces MGS murder video today and it's pretty clear he hasn't played much MGS
