"Oreo Pupper did nothing wrong"

Spoiler alert, her adoption fee was only $200 of that.

(I'm including about 2k to replace flooring and furniture)

You have a high energy dog and leave it in a crate for hours at a time.

I'm not criticizing you because I made the same mistake with a beagle and he was a fucking asshole.

Next time get a lazy breed like Pit Bull that just wants to sleep all day and do nothing. It's so much easier than the hunter gatherer types with infinite energy

The dog didn't do anything wrong. Ripping up flooring or furniture is not some inherently malicious or evil act and the dog isn't doing it to be an ass. It's doing it because it's not getting the exercise and activity it needs.

kongs filled with substance can keep dogs pacified for a few hours.
provided the dog is into those sort of things.

even those toys you put food in can encourage the dog to play with it.

We were trying to let her out of her crate while we're gone, in slowly increasing increments.

First was like 20 mins, then an hour, then a couple hours. Yesterday was all day. This is what I came home to.

As someone who can't stand dogs, pro tip: letting it out of its cage during the day is not exercise.

Well, to clarify, the dog is turning it into exercise, because you've done nothing with it except stick it in a cage.

It's not about being out of the crate. Those dogs need to be let outside.

Not saying you don't need go let a lazy dog out I'm just saying.

In the case of a beagle, they're literally bred to run around all day fetching birds so me and my roommates being at work for 8 hours a day was bad.

We'd let him out when we got home but that kind of dog needed to be out way more than we could realistically provide him unfortunately.

One of my roommates took him and apparently he's a well behaved dog now tho

Maybe someone who doesn't actually look into what you need to do before you get a pup.

It took us weeks to get our pup crate trained but we did it fine because we looked into it. We knew what to do to tire him out. We've trained him to stop terrorizing our shoes. Because we took the time to do it. Don't get a fucking dog and then bitch that it does dog things if you don't train it

My friends dog chewed through his bedroom door, twice. To be fair to Snoop, my friend was barely home for 3 days straight with work (2 Jobs) one of those times. Just once to feed him. Housemates promised to take care of him but theyre lazy deadbeats so of course they couldnt.

I think he made the right choice when he sent the dog to live with his mom :(

my dog defeats kongs in approximately 45 seconds. her strategy: pick it up and throw it on the ground repeatedly.

the only thing that defeats her is a 10 mile walk/run. preferably at 20mph the whole way.

we have a bike attachment for her.

Fetch is pretty poor exercise tbh. I take my dog to parks, let him off leash and run, play with other dogs, take him on hikes, etc.

Fetch is something I do in conjunction with all that, not his only exercise

If your pup still has these types of habits 6 months into having it you haven't done a sufficient job training it.

My pup is only 6 months OLD and he's already a god damn angel. I can leave him out of the cage and he won't do anything but he even prefers being in there now when I'm not home.

You need to accept the fact that not all dogs are the same. Some puppies have no issues with potty training after two days in a home, some take months. Some suffer from separation anxiety, some don't. Some need physical stimulation, some need mental stimulation, some just want to nap.

Yeah the 4 dogs I've trained over the course of my entire life from puppyhood to their ends must all be well behaved by coincidence

What are my solutions, again?

-Pay $100/hr per session, or up to 2k for a full boarding school.

-Make her an outside dog, which isn't much of an option for her, with how much she likes to eat mulch, rocks, and grass. She will stop when you tell her to, but if she's unsupervised she goes for it.

-Crating her and not crating her

I'm not unwilling to try new ideas. I'm honestly down to try pretty much anything that will help with her. But some things just aren't viable for our current situation.

Wasn't trying to ignore you yesterday, had a lot of replies to go through. And honestly I was just very overwhelmed.

Do you cover just the top, all sides except the front? Or what.

I will try that to see if it freaks her out any less.

I know crates are supposed to be like dens for them, if properly acclimated to it.

You've already made her uncomfortable in her cage, now you have to retrain her.

Do you make her eat her food in her cage?
Do you cover her cage so she doesn't feel the vastness of the room?
Do you make the cage friendly to her by putting stuff of your scent in it and something she likes?
Did you hang out around her in her crate so she's okay with being in the crate while you're around FIRST?

Etc etc etc

Basically everything but the front. You want her to basically only able to see in front of the cage like a cave. Do menial tasks around her. Make sure she doesn't whine in it and get her used to just chilling in there with you around.

Also having like an old worn shirt that you don't need anymore or something in there with her might help

kinda bad. it's not my current dog but the one before it had very serious separation anxiety during the incident. every time the house was left the dog would have that issue and tear up the place. thinking back i kinda wish i wouldn't of scolded so hard. i did pretty well with my current dog despite the circumstances it only chewed carpet 2 times (maybe a small square of it).

Right now she eats in the kitchen, separate from the other dog.

We don't cover her crate, but I will try that tomorrow.

When we first got her, we tried putting blankets, towels, old T shirts in there with her. She would unfortunately only use it to cover up her poop.
So we stopped putting things in there with her, because she would poop or pee, pretty no matter long she was in there.

I wish we would have had more time to prep her, but we had to go back to work like the day after adopting her.
