(the GBA version btw)
It has the perfect amount of story, with absolutely no weeby character drama that I can't stand in 99% of JRPGs. Plus the music is fantastic. Just good old fashioned grinding and dungeons and items and exploring. Love it --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

It was a good enough game. Definitely better than 2. It's just that FF is a pretty consistently quality series.

The ending is still a causal-loop disaster. It's supposed to be. It's supposed to make sense only in a circular way, where the harder you think about it, the less sense it makes. But oddly, there may be a basis for this in general relativity. The Novikov Self-consistency principle (which in fairness is only one theory) simply states that causality through a CTC (or a "time loop") only needs to be self-consistent. It's a pretty good read on Wikipedia, tbh. But that's kind of a side point, as it's more likely Square just thought it was clever to make their time travel story a headscratcher instead of doing research on general relativity. --- 53 LIII p16 0x35 ... I prefer FF3 for "classic" jrpg gameplay. It's like FF1 except you can change classes and occasionally get guests.
Also the best FF1 party (NES version) is Fi/Fi/RM/WM imo. GBA version makes the thief a lot more viable but not enough to bridge the gap compared to Fighters, although the 2nd temper/haste is kinda nice. --- Remember that I won't rest, 'til we share the same tense Just know, to me, you're better late than never again. ... Yeah if I ever do another playthrough, I would definitely choose a different party. I have the Origins version for PS1 and went with Fighter/Thief/White Mage/Black Mage. The limited casts ruined the Black Mage and didn't do the White Mage a lot of favors. The Thief was ok not great until he learned Haste or Quick or whatever it was (which is super OP but didn't really make him a good character overall). I think I might try for more white casts by swapping out the Black Mage for a Red or another White and swap out the Thief for something else--maybe try Monk. --- 53 LIII p16 0x35 ... You might like the Etrian Odyssey games. I don't really recall a lot of dramatic story telling, just great dungeon crawling goodness.
