Ive been holding off to hear what people though about the endgame and so far its mediocre at best :/ Basically, it's a bundle of my JRPG pet peeves. I'll put my explanation in spoiler tags, though it's just detailing game elements and not story ones. I love JRPGs, but I still see a lot of mechanics in modern ones that I personally see as outdated nonsense. Being forced to use certain party members for end-game content, benchwarmer characters not receiving backup exp or lacking an easy way to catch up (Trails does this well, imo), and bosses where the "difficulty" lies in a cheap gimmick and/or a long process you have to do all over again if you lose. Octopath has all three. Post-game/final dungeon is an 8 boss gauntlet of previous bosses, then phase 1 of the final boss, then phase 2. No saving, your party isn't refreshed, and you're forced to use all 8 characters--in two separate groups--for the phase 1 & 2. I don't feel like grinding out characters I don't want to use in the slightest that are very underlevel, nor do I feel like repeating a gauntlet 2-5 times for when I do get to the final boss. Add to it that I'm not personally impressed by the overall writing in this game, and I lack incentive, as well, to want to do these things. The world lore is interesting, they did a good job with that, but it's not interesting enough for me. That's just me, though. It felt like they wanted to make a modern FF6, but forgot to have the various characters interact or give them any motivation for being where they are.
