It started when an insurance company gave David a quote roughly $4,500 a year, if he bought the Chevy. He had a collision and a ticket or two on his record, which helped boost the premium.

Then, he had an idea. He asked the insurer what his costs would be if he were a woman. He was told his annual bill would sink to roughly $3,400 a $1,100 difference.

"I was pretty angry about that. And I didn't feel like getting screwed over any more," he said.

"So I asked them to change my gender on my auto policy, and she's like, we can't do that."

That's not my point at all. yes, we need some form of insurance. But the current state of the insurance industry is definitely awful.

Oh you're 29 instead of 30? That will be an extra 216.34. Male instead of female? Let's double it.Been driving 9.4 years instead of 9.6? Hmm add 400. Are you an IT consultant or an IT analyst? Ouch, analysts are obviously x1.39.

To check this I filled in the same quote on the same insurance broker aggregator 4 or 5 times over and my insurance quotes quite literally varied from 340 to 1400. The real kicker was that comprehensive insurance was vastly cheaper than third party. It's like they just made the fucking numbers up each time.

And good luck actually being insured in a helpful way. For 99% of accidents you're going to pay more in excess than in damages. Ok maybe it's slightly less, but your insurance is going to double next years as a result of actually wanting to use your insurance.

The system is set up like a casino, where the house always wins and if you do happen to win they'll bring the bouncers out to fuck you up after.

It's a ridiculous system and the fact that you go through several different sleazy sales people before getting a contract says it all.

no it isn't. he's not changing his Gender because of who he really is as a person. he's changing it to commit fraud. now if your argument is that its not fair that Women and Men get different rates that's definitely a discussion we can have...but i wonder how you feel about the same situation with regard to salary...

Long story short, at first everything was great, but then other problems came up, I forget exactly what, but to do with gender on all other documents - passports, birth certificates etc., basically it turned out that the savings wasnt worth it. And to top it off, I dont remember exactly, but his insurance cancelled his policy or some shit, because apparently doing this counted as fraud? Or they threated to cancel... I dont remmebr, but it was a very interesting detailed long post.

Fair, next. Don't try and "play" the system when the system is already rigged against the trans people these policies exist to benefit. He's ruining his own life to try and save money but he'll pay far more in the end and it's all because the man in the article is a shitstain.
