Just replace the gender pronouns with gender neutral ones (or have both there) and replace "mansplaining" with "being a jerk" and it would be a fine chart. Don't know why being a condescending jerk needs to be differentiated by sex/gender like this. This stuff is just people looking for sexism.

Not really. It reeks of arrogance to think that only explanations you specifically ask for are warranted. Imagine being offended every time you were corrected.

It also assumes this is an issue mostly women deal with.

I mean, you shouldn't be wrong, but you kind of are with that last point. There is a degree of institutional sexism, especially in fields that are mostly men that leads to this.

It means that, whilst there are definitely know-it-all, condescending jerks who do it purposefully to everyone, there are also those who, somewhat innocently do it towards women. They're not necessarily doing it because they're know-it-all's, they're doing it because they have an instutionally ingrained belief that a woman probably won't know as much as them about their subject.

Giving it a name and pointing it out is to help make those people who are doing aren't necessarily doing it intentionally to take a step back and look at their own actions.

I think the word here should be stereotype and not sexism. The emphasis on men targeting women is, by the article's own admission, inaccurate as people do this regardless of the gender of the person.

A better, and simpler, outlook would be to only intercede in situations where there is the potential for harm. Otherwise ask a person in a low-key manner if they want some sort of tip or explanation. By giving them a sense of control over whether or not the information is presented you minimize the risk of offending someone.

In business the idea of mansplaining is mostly a waste. By in large people being clear on what others are saying and what everyone is supposed to be marching to is far more important than someone's feelings about being corrected.

did she ask to explain it -> no
do you have more relevant experience -> yes, by a fair amount
would most men with her education & experience already know this -> no
did you ask if she needed it explained -> i did not ask
PROBABLY MANSPLAINING

and this is why i stopped teaching the new girl at work how to do her job. Apparently i'm just being an asshole explaining stuff she's messing up on because she's too full of herself to ask for help. But hell she's a hot single mother of 2 kids, so it's not like anyone cares or gets mad at her

... So basically according to this chart, no matter the situation, if she doesn't ask you to explain something or say "yes please explain," then you are either probably mansplaining, definitely mansplaining, or should just stop talking? Seems legit.

When people (almost always men) explain the product design methods in my own book to me, I say Im well-acquainted with them, mentally roll my eyes, and move on.

How many of them knew the article writer wrote a book on it?

I've run into situations where I would ask if someone was familiar with X and they'd say yes to save face while not knowing it. So I make the point to explain things in a short concise manner to make sure we're on the same page. I wouldn't have a problem hurting some girl's feelings by mansplaining, she'll get over it. And if she needs to pin the blame on someone, blame the bros who act as if they know when they don't (I've been guilty of this in the past).

I get that the intent is to deter men from being condescending to women, but I feel like its actual use is to just shutdown conversation from men who have an opposing point of view. I'm sure some men do it maliciously, but I don't think most men intend it that way; same way how women usually express themselves through expressions of feelings, I think men like to just communicate using logic and just enjoy explaining things. If "mansplaining" is a thing, though, I wish "womansplaining" would be the counterpart. The amount of times some women have talked down to me as if I were their own 5 year old child is staggering, and in that sense I can see where women come from with "mansplaining".
