Count how many in a certain area and extrapolate it to the general size of the galaxy.

They counted all the stars in the universe, thrn subtracted from it the number of stars in every other galaxy besides the one they are interested in

so u can just count one star and extrapolate that area to the rest of the galaxy and there are infinity stars

If you think about it, what's the point?

For all anyone knows, all the stars in the sky are just illusions, as every one of them died out already but light has that pesky delay in traveling galaxies so we still see it.

I believe the universe is infinite but I'm just curious how you can take something that has roughly 400+ billion stars and count them and I find it amazing how scientists go about doing this.
