Christmas is definitely better, and you won't get unlimited apples between now and then. Someone calculated out that we'll get 56 Gold Apples between the end of Nerofest and Christmas (Nerofest itself will give us 15 plus a bunch of silver/bronze).

There are a couple reasons to use a lot of your Apples now though:

1. It's hard to spend over 100 Apples on a single event. That's a lot of real time.

2. The boxes have Medals and Chains, which are annoying to farm for Servants who need them. Tons of Servants use Chains in particular (and all the Servants who use Medals use assloads of them), so it's nice to be able to get them here. Likewise the Ghost Lanterns and Gears, if you need those.

3. It's better to get tons of XP and QP now rather than later, since you probably have Servants you want to use them on. :p Plus it's nice to split the rewards over two events, so that you'll have more room left for leftover XP for future Servants, and more ability to use them on the Servants you do have.

4. The most optimal nodes are available right at the start of Nerofest, whereas they're locked until the second half of Christmas, so you have more ability to spread it out here. This is nice for sanity reasons.

Again, Christmas boxes are definitely better, so spend as many Apples as you can there. But there's definitely good reason to spend a bunch here, too.

Good advice, thanks. I don't even have 30 apples currently, so even though it would be really useful to have the XP early, I'll probably hold off like I was thinking. I need the skill gems very badly.

You should divide all numbers by like 3 when taking any point of reference Mac gives you with regards to grinding.

I mean maybe you can but I doubt you'll be able to spend much more than the 56 he mentions. But *shrug do what ya want.

It was when KnK released. Not sure if they just did regular compensation or something special. The game was up for 2 minutes during that period, but there was a glitch that made every card rolled a 5* Servant, so they took it back down.

40AP for Gold
other 40AP for Petals

Don't farm 30AP.

Also @Sceptilesolar I cannot emphasize how time + soul consuming lottery farming is. Even if you think that the Christmas lottery is like 5x more valuable, the shortened farming time should factor heavily into your thinking about the relative efficacy of each event, especially in light of the gigantic apple infusion we just got.

Also don't worry about farming petals for now. In a couple of days the line up changes to mostly sabers, an archer and a Lancer for the petal node. Easier to farm then.

If there's one thing I'm particularly thankful for in FGO, it's that my first 10x roll after the tutorial summon got me Ibaraki, and she's great. Good Berserkers do go a long way.

Hmm, Petal farming is kinda annoying with all the Sabers followed by Karma and Arjuna.

Chloe wipes the second wave pretty good. Third wave can be done by Lartoria or other AoE Lancer or a Berserker. First wave isn't too bad just to kill with regular cards, or use Arash if you have the space.

Theoretically you could put Lartoria in the back line and swap her in for the third wave if you have a Waver and a high enough NP charge skill level

I just run Ilya Mata Hari Waver and can usually do it in 6 or 7 turns with Ilya NPs on Arjuna in wave 3 and the giant in wave 2. Use normal attacks to kill everything else. Probably could be more efficient but meh.

Just saying there aren't enough targets that it's mandatory to run AOE NPs

The 3 turn setup I had was Kscope Arash who swaps out for spartacus (Can also be MLB Imaginary around if you put spartacus at max guts level and make sure he gets at least one arts card in the second wave) wave 1, dump all of support waver's skill on Joint Recital Chloe with maxed out Kiss demon, projection + her NP one shots the spriggan, any non-waver cards kills the other one.

Last wave, have maxed out white princess rose on spartacus, use his self charge (that puts him at 70%, swap out Waver for shakespeare with strengthening quest, charge Spartacus + buff him as much as possible. You don't quite kill Arjuna after the NP but any non-shakespeare followup should kill him.

Projection has to be leveled a little. I have spartacus's buster skill at 8 and I have double waver instead of waver-shakespeare and arjuna is usually left with less than 10k hp.

This is based off of a 3 turn farming guide on reddit that I can't find atm.
