5 may be the numerical average, with points 1-10 able to be assigned.

However, since the majority of people are closer to average, the statistical average for the sample size would actually end up being closer to 7.

Walk around your city, look around at people and start assigning rankings to everyone (or just girls, doesn't matter).

You'll hardly ever see any girls rated 0-4 and hardly any girls that are rated a 10. This means, that most are rated 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 (even those are rare) are the most common ratings assigned.

So for the sample size of a population, 7 is actually the average for looks. Maybe 6.5

It's like in school, where 70% is a grade of a C, even though you're doing most of the work...it's still just average and considered a minimum threshold

lol how is 3-4 ever average. at that point, 7-10 are just increasing levels of hotness with more finite differences between the points. if i want to make my rating more finite, i start using decimals, like 7.5. A girl that's a 75% hotness rating is more intuitive than a girl with 55% hotness rating but 30-40% is average

Not just for looks, but any rating system on any subject...

It's better to cram all the low tiers into the fewest numbers possible, that way you have more magnification on the top tier best stuff that matters.

Let's say you only have a 4 star scale, it's better to mark all the low to average stuff into 1 star, and use 2, 3, or 4 stars to measure and differentiate among the better stuff.
