It was so great while it lasted. But now that they started taking showtimes away while raising their monthly rate to 14.99 and still doing peak pricing; I no longer get any value from it.

I agree. I wish they would've just raised the base price or made the peak pricing more reasonable. I'd be down to pay as much as 24.99 a month for the original deal.

I don't have AMC near me either.

They could raise it to as high as $20, even right now, and I'd still stick with it.

But they've gotten so strict on what show times they allow, and it's not even consistent, that it makes trying to use it such a pain in the ass that it's impossible to plan out when we want to go watch a movie.

I'm trying to stick it out a little bit in case they figure things out, but I'm only paying at most one month at the higher pricing before I dip if this keeps up.

I cancelled on Thursday night. I went to the theater and tried to check in and it said "Sorry, no more screenings for this theater today" for all the movies. Then I figured I'd go to the theater down the road about a mile and half but before I wasted my time I figured I tried to check in first. "Error, moviepass has encountered an error." And that's when I cancelled. Sinemia looks like a better deal anyway. $7.99 for 2 movies a month which is pretty much what I was doing with moviepass. btw, make sure you get your confirmation email that you cancelled. I guess some people are having a hard time cancelling because moviepass puts up a pop-up on the cancellation screen which makes it confusing on how to cancel.

I'd be all over this if I didn't have to drive 80 miles to the nearest theater.

The guy (Mitch Lowe) said he wanted people to treat it like a gym membership. Sign up for it and then forget about it but still pay for it. LOL. The reason people forget about their gym card is because it's not fun going to the gym. Going to the movies is fun. Bad idea was bad.

This is the thing. The service is essentially dead, they've raised the price for entry and removed most showtimes because they don't want people to continue using it because they're out of cash. At the same time, many people paid for the sub as a yearly fee, so subscribers would be entitled to refunds if they officially shut down and they don't got the cash to refund them either.

All this is, is buying moviepass time to figure out how to get out from under whatever debts and liabilities they'll have when they shut down and to minimize their already massive losses. But unfortunately the service is finished. This is just smoke and mirrors to buy time.

I just cancelled too. Making me take pictures of my ticket was a bullshit change, so although it's been great, they don't deserve to keep me as a customer.

People were abusing it. Using it every day to rack up the rewards points but not actually going to see the movie. Some people even claim they were able to use it at a grocery store as long as the amount was smaller than the amount of the ticket.

I bought a year pass and almost had my moneys worth before it went to crap. Some movies have certain showtimes available, so I'll probably use it as much as I can before my year runs out

Was there any way at all they could've made a profit? Going off the average price of a movie ticket, and assuming they'd limit it to one use a week, they'd have to have charged $36 a month just to break even.

Their gameplan was A. to get nearly ALL movie-goers to use the service, then B. use that to start making deals with the major theater chains to make it the norm.

There was no way that was ever going to work for a company not affiliated with any theater companies.

They probably assumed people would buy it and only use it a couple times per year/forget about their sub.

Instead people bought it and went fucking nuts with it.
