Its time we see a Robot Master. Mega Man-games are awesome largely because of its great casts of bosses, right? Metal Man is an iconic RM from Mega Man 2, the most classic MM-game. Hes the man we need to cut this streak and get one into a contest!

Sure, hes a memorable boss from a legendary series known for its focus on bosses...but maybe youre not sold yet. Thats okay -- his legend goes beyond that. Defeating him gave you the power of Metal Blade, which famously wrecked most of your enemies in this difficult game. This power encouraged savvy players to fight him first, then use his power through-out the rest of their quest.

Yeah, but does anybody actually like him? Se7enthrusts most recent Save My Mega Man Boss-contests suggest people care about Metal Man. He lost to Pharaoh Man in one championship, but he also redeemed himself in another championship when he skunked Air Man 59-0. Since Metal Man was the only RM to make it to the end of both contests and MM2s cast had the most support of any MM-game, Metal Man looks like Board 8s safest choice.

Metal Man can also rock in a contest. In fact, his timing is perfect since Mega Man just had his best Character Battle yet; he beat Charizard despite Zeros LFF and nearly beat Mewtwo + Pikachu COMBINED in a year of Pokemania, so MM-nostalgia is strong today. The fan-reaction to Capcoms apathy, success of Mighty No. 9s Kickstarter, and addition of Mega Man in SSB4 support this notion too.

Speaking of SSB4, did you know Nintendo showed off Metal Man and Metal Blade first in Mega Mans power-montage?

Lets be real: Mega Man, Mega Man X, and Zero are probably out of reach in a contest...but heres my bold prediction: Metal Man will be the next strongest Mega Man-character, which means hed have to beat Proto Man. The argument is simple: the role of Robot Master is more iconic, MM2 >> MM3, and Metal Man even sneaks into MM3 to steal some spotlight. I dont expect MM9-DLC, MM10, and a whistle to save Blues here. If Metal > Proto, that means Metal Man could have scored the upset on Ike this past contest...or even challenged Epona!

Even if he falls short of Proto Man, its hard to imagine Metal Man bombing. Hed definitely beat Dr. Wily, for example; RMs are much more anticipated than Dr. Wilys fights and a lot of players dont complete many MM-games, so recurring eyebrow-raises arent enough. Pit him against Servbot, and youd see a certain 2002-result get exposed. Like any worthwhile character, he could at least crush Sigma and Roll combined. Metal Man has some range, but he wont go too low -- he beats these other MM-reps weve seen before.

That was most definitely not your original write-up. You originally didn't even tell people what they were signing up to nominate, only providing vague hints and no doubt hoping that your success with the Epona nomination rally would be good enough to attract interest and that by the time you revealed the character, loyalty and inertia would get most people to go along with it despite it clearly being a go-nowhere idea.

Ive decided on my next rally. This time, it will be [Pokemon-spoilers]

...not anything related to Pokemon.

I know, I know -- this board LOVES Pokemon and they really K'd some A in our last contest. Considering how GameFAQs became more pro-Pokemon in recent years and how well they regularly perform in our NRTs, any rally for a Pokemon-character/game would probably be a lock. I mean, Squirtle and Mewtwo just beat Cloud and Sephiroth...even Lugia won a match.

That's exactly why it cannot be -- there is no thrill for such a rally. Sorry Kadabra...you'll have your chance one day.

...it's going to have NOTHING to do with League of Legends.

Sorry, LoL-ites, but I'm with the buttaches; having to guess whether a LoL-character will be rallied like Draven or Teemo isn't fun. Kick them out as quick as you can, as far as I'm concerned. No mercy!
That's exactly why it cannot be -- they completely rely on outside sites and aren't fun to watch as a long-time predictor. Better luck never, Jax* and friends.
*really have no idea who would be the next best LoL-character, but this guy reminds me of Mortal Kombat,

Update: new rally is breaking trends...
...this will be my first rally ever to NOT involve Nintendo.

Incredible -- I didnt realize how long of a streak this had become. Eponas been a big success this year with her 8-seed and victories over Ike and Mordin, but she wasnt my first representation for Nintendo. Who remembers Team Chocolate? Doc Louis from Punch-Out reached a vote-in once upon a time too...

Those are just personal rallies, but it goes even further than that. The one time I led the Nomination Rally Tournament, all three of its elected winners were Nintendo-games that made it into Best Game Ever 2: Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, Star Fox 64, and Donkey Kong Country 2.

No offense to Nintendo as Im a lifelong-fan who enjoyed each of those rallies, but this is exactly why it cannot be: its time for some variation on my end. I apologize to Nintendo-fans across Board 8...hopefully someone else can take a stand for Metroid, Cranky Kong, and the Great Deku Tree.

...but I couldnt commit. He remains a front-runner for the day I win the Guru, but he isnt exciting enough for a rally outside of being fun fodder. It would have been a lie to say he has strength, wildcard capabilities, or even hope for an off-site rally. Other THQ-on-N64 fans likely agree: AKI Man would have been a tough sell.

For the AKI Maniacs out there still saddened by this near-opportunity, Im truly sorry. You may take my torch and run.
