Yes but the religious excuses at least as far as christianity is concerned wouldn't be there so the trade wouldn'thave lasted as long.

I don't think so, at least not in the same manner. The main thing for black people was that they could "justify" dehumanizing them by their skin color. I'm sure they might still have seen them as "uncivilized" enough to profit off them in some capacity, but I don't think things would have developed in the same way.
