Thoughts on this? We've had a few discussions on regulatory agencies so I'm curious how you feel about this.

Asbestos is pretty harmless when it's put in place by properly trained and PFE'd professionals, and never messed with again.

I wonder what the hell "use cases" they've come up with that warrants the risk of someone messing with it.

I actually came in to point this out. Allowing asbestos to be used in specific, case by case circumstances, with the proper safety precautions taken isn't inherently bad. Every caustic, carcinogenic, and dangerous substance has some sort of benign use. This doesn't mean they will be stuffing it back into schools or passing out asbestos teddy bears to children.

Why not wait and see the uses they allow before throwing temper tantrums, huh?

Didn't read the entire thread, but the OP seems to be missing some context. What buildings will it be using? Has technology made it much safer? What about the fact that it was proven that asbestos actually succeeded in saving more people's lives by preventing fires than it killed by causing cancer?

I'm guessing it's being used for spacecraft of something?

The structural substitutes for asbestos (fiberglass and rock wool) really aren't much safer. Fiberglass causes silicosis, and rockwool is essentially artificial asbestos anyway.

And from what I've read, it's the removal of asbestos that increases the danger. I'm assuming the manufacturing process has been improved to be much safer as well.

Asbestos blocks could probably have quite a bit of the danger eliminated by coating them with wax or something.

Actually, if the world trade center had been built differently it likely would have never fallen. Each tower was constructed with one big central support down the middle in order to maximize floor space and make it more attractive for offices. If there were more supports, spread further out around the towers they would have likely withstood the attack.

it is estimated that the World Trade Center contained approximately 400 tons of asbestos fiber at the time of the attacks - much, if not all of which, was also released into the ambient air with the smoke plume, collapsing towers, and subsequent fires
