I miss the simplicity sometimes. Modern games have to be the next best thing or this big epic. Mostly indie games go back to "here is game, play it".

How many Atari games had female protagonists? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is Kangaroo in which a mother kangaroo rescues her joey from monkeys.
