My version of windows is also *not modded*.

I wanted to actually buy a legitimate copy because I was sick of downloading hacks to get rid of that ugly watermark, and ew. $100 for the version I'm using.

I might eat that price anyway.

Windows 7 OEM keys are like $6 on ebay. They're legal, you just need to find a means of installing Windows on your own to do anything with the key. That's if you must have Windows. Why would anybody want 10 with its rancid reputation?

Because the motherboard I got only works with Windows 10. So I can't just use Windows 7 or else I never would have gotten Win 10.

The upgrade is still free. They just dont advertise it. Its 100% legal.

Was just about to say what Mister said. Didn't even know what you said was possible. Makes me glad I no longer build or game on PC's. To be forced into shitty software like that, I won't stand for it. Forced updates are a terrible idea.

the motherboard does not have a way to lock you to one specific version

I have a hard drive right now with windows 7 on it. I can use my mouse and keyboard in BIOS but once "Starting Windows" pops up, either to just log in or to install windows 7 I can no longer use my mouse or keyboard.

If you can find a way to make them work that I haven't tried yet, that would have been great like 2 days ago when I was trying everything on line that I read about on how to fix it.

I got a win10 key on ebay for $5. I'll learn to be OK with 10.

I think you are looking at it backwards. If you replace your motherboard, you need to reinstall your operating system because it needs new drivers for your new hardware.

Then you should have no problem installing Windows 7/8/10 or some flavor of Linux on it.

But that means when installing windows 7, it should work right? Since it would not have the same issue. Explain to me why when I went to install windows 7 the mouse and keyboard didn't work thus making it so I couldn't install it but when I went to install Windows 10 it worked completely fine and now I have win10.

And I did state the wrong part, it's not the motherboard so much as it's the cpu. To be able to install win7 you need to be able to use a PS/2 keyboard or else your keyboard won't work.

I also should have said it's not supported rather than it just doesn't work.

^There's also that W7 was just so good, people don't feel the need to upgrade. But I use my old gaming rig as a work computer now, and I think I want W10 because I do a lot of data transfers at work, and it's so much faster on W10.

Forced updates would be my #1. Plus I keep my PC's long enough that I can usually skip OS's in between. Think I went from 3.1 to ME to 2K then 7.

Tell that to the people who could only install windows 7 with similar setups to mine with a PS/2 keyboard. For my problem, searching around showed that the easiest solution was to just use a PS/2 keyboard.

If you are going to use Windows, you should be on 10. It's ridiculous to think 10 spies on you but 7 doesn't. You're putting complete trust in Microsoft either way. 10 has major architectural and security improvements.

If you have problems with Windows 10 then switch to Mac or Linux. You'll have to do it eventually and it's only going to get more painful the longer you wait.

Screw that. 7 is plenty secure as long as I'm not visiting shady sites. I plan to keep it at least another 5-6 years.

For? I thought everyone knew about that update which tried to force 10 onto PC's. Um, if you're reading it as the trial disabled the updates, no. I meant I disabled the updater after hearing about it and never turned it back on.

I really miss Windows 3.1 sometimes.
