This is like the perfect example of a situation where Mal_Fet's already made up his mind on something and no amount of arguing or it being pointed out how incorrect he is is gonna change that fact because he's Mal_Fet so he has to be right.

I'm unconvinced by the cutesy excuse of "Hey, just because the event is FOR black graduates doesn't mean other races can't attend! We accept everyone of all races even though 99.99% of the attendees are of one race"

If that were really the case then they would simply go to the regular commencement meant for everybody. And yes that goes for all the other race-specific graduations, like the asian and latin"x" ones.

using the black graduation as an example, it looks more personal and accommodating for the graduates. they also likely get to invite more guests.

and as for why the graduation might have "99.9 of the same race", there could likely be a number of reasons. maybe non-black graduates might feel awkward about participating (I've seen it happen in other schools). maybe they might have the preconception that they might be excluded, and end up being dissuaded because of it. maybe they might see it as being less legitimate, for what ever reasons, and so on.

I wasn't making a comparison to anything. It's exactly the situation at hand.

Question is, will you stand by what you've been forced to admit or will you retain racial double-standards as far as this behavior goes?

Yes it does. The black student ceremony is a student led thing that has been created for black students to celebrate their achievements. Harvard students are all welcome to attend with them. It also doesn't replace the standard graduation ceremony.

You're whining about people celebrating their achievements and background. Which is what Independence Day is for Americans.

So why else would you celebrate your race if not because you feel proud about it?

That context and past doesn't just go away. There's a reason this story is American. They're celebrating being a minority that accomplished something great. They're not celebrating racial supremacy.

What has changed in the last 60 years or so that theres an acceptance for one race to express racial pride and not another? If anything I would think weve progressed where a person isnt expected to express or not express their sentiments simply because of the color of their skin.
