This is the true mindfuck depending on where you live. By the time September rolls around you can be in the 30s and 40s sometimes in England. It's kind of the same for Winter though. Winter only starting Dec 21st when it can be snowing and freezing cold months before that.

Like as a kid, purely based on the English climate, I'd have pegged winter as Nov to Feb, spring Mar to late May, Summer late May to late Aug, Fall as late Aug to Oct.

Now as a Floridian seasons are pretty irrelevant. It's like Apr to Sept is hot, rest of time is slightly cooler with some potential for the 40s in Dec and Jan

This is mostly accurate. Only thing is that it feels like fall starts a week or two into September. Largely due to school starting in September (it's a legal requirement where I am) and Labor Day.

August sounds cold, because it's like a portmanteau of Autumn and gust (as in windy). Not that you foreign types call it Autumn anyway.

Though my personal definitions of the seasons are:
Winter: Early/Mid December - Early April
Spring: Mid April - Mid May
Summer: Late May - Mid September
Fall: Late September - Early December
