So in the last week I took uber twice for various reasons, didn't mind the service but notice something quite odd. Both times the driver were Hispanic which I have no issue with since I'm one as well. The moment I enter the car they spoke to me in Spanish since my name is as Spanish as it can be. I reply to them in English which they seem perturb. Then they made another statement in Spanish which I clearly understood and once again responded in English. For the remainder of the ride they seem annoyed but I didn't much care.

Any other fellow Hispanic on this forum ever had another Hispanic get mad at you for speaking in English?

In China they use DiDi which is basically basically the same thing. Even though I'm clearly a white guy the driver will try to talk to me in Chinese. I'll tell them I don't speak English but they'll keep trying to talk.

Luckily it's super cheap so I'll keep using it. When I was at the airport a regular taxi tried to charge me about $45 for a 15 minute drive, I got a DiDi instead and it was $7.

Taxis are definitely pricing themselves out all over the world to Grab, Uber and DiDi which makes me happy to see. When I'm in Thailand I use Grab, in Canada I'll use Uber every single time because fuck those overpriced taxis.
