It doesn't make sense. Medium/small/large doesn't make sense.

Either dd/mm/yyyy or yyyy/mm/dd

Edit: oh ofc https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_format_by_country

Probably has to do with how people say "September 11th 2001" in spoken language, rather than 11 september 2001.

I doubt people in America say it like that

Medium/small/large doesn't make sense.

It does if you can count correctly

12 is smaller than 31

I've always assumed one of two reasons. Either it is because saying July 4th is one less word than 4th of July for example. The more convoluted reason is that when you say the day first it isn't that useful for narrowing down the time frame. If you say the 15th it could be the 15th of June, or 15th of December. Pretty much anytime during the year. However if you say the month first then you have a good idea of the general time of year and then the more specific.

Fair enough. Still not enough

(Have you realize that enough and enough rhymes?!)

Hmm, that could be either way tbh. The only moment that you want to know the month first is if it isn't in the present, and you can wait bc you are searching for something in some way(past or future).
And the only moment you want to know the day first is if you already know the month(present), which is the most usual situation(depends on the job maybe?)

because if you start with the day, you still have no information!

its the 7th

okay?

at least when you start with the month you have some grasp of when/where you are in time

January

okay, let's narrow it down further, etc etc
