Why or why not?

As an aside, will religion substantially change or go away considering everlasting life is a fundamental promise made by many religions?

Yes, in that we will discover it

No, it will not be accessible to me

It's unlikely unless we make massive leaps in cyborg technology in the next 50 years that extends lifespans by quite a bit. We're probably still a coupe hundred years off of being able to manipulate cells to that degree.

I kind of fall in line with this mode of thinking as research on aging has really taken off and there have been a number of promising studies done on other animals. I think at first the procedures required to make this happen indefinitely will be too expensive for anyone outside billionaires and maybe after a few decades some millionaires will be able to participate. By the time it's cheap enough to be widely accessible I'll probably already be dead.

If we can buy ourselves 30+ years on top of our regular lifespan, that gives science and technology another three decades of time to advance. And in that time, we'll probably uncover a way to grant ourselves another 30+ years.

Rinse and repeat until we uncover the secret to immortality, or at least to 1,000+ year lifespans.

Yes it will be discovered but I won't be alive for it nor will any kids I have.

There's still a lot about the human body we don't know.

We do need to advance genetic aging along with massive modifications of the human aging process.

I don't think we can stop aging, but we can make our body to appear to age slower as we get older.

Imagine being 100 years old but having the body of a 50 year old.

Things like that.

Initial Genetically modified humans aging process will be normal right to about 16, then start slowing down afterwards.

Thats the kind of genetic aging goal we should realistically be able to achieve IMO.

We'll probably find a way to prevent aging and death when I'm like 112 years old and the oldest person alive, thus sealing my fate to live out as an old, wrinkly man for all eternity while everyone else gets to be younger and happier and better looking.

i mean eventually i'm sure we'd figure out how to reverse the aging process too

AFAIK there are some animals that can already pull off that crazy type of regeneration

Its theoretically possible (possible, not probable) to reverse aging with the right genetic manipulation.

Speak of the devil

https://www.knowablemagazine.org/article/living-world/2018/controlling-electric-signals-body-could-help-it-heal

Another one is fighting cancer. Theres a fair amount of research being done now on bioelectric signals as both a cause and a potential suppressor of cancer cells. You can normalize certain tumors by exposing them to specific drugs that change their electrical potential. Depending on the compounds you use, you can selectively affect only certain types of cells, like the ones in a tumor, while leaving the surrounding tissue intact. Thats pretty much ready for testing in mouse models.

A third area is regenerative medicine. If we can use electrical signaling to convince tissues and organs to grow after injury, we could replace entire structures or organs for patients. Bioelectricity gives you a great new set of control knobs with which to regulate cell behavior. It'll be much easier to build biological structures to suit once we understand these large-scale regulators like electrical signaling.

This is definitely interesting. I feel like the most important part of the interview was left as the closer, still a good read.
