The tournament was cool in the beginning, but once it got to the match making and the bracket, as well as the actual matches

it fell in quality I felt

the matches just weren't that great IMO

the match making were set up in a way that they had reason to end in like 5 seconds

or matches we didn't need to pay attention to like the two "hard" guys

the Ura match was really good, the fight was a weird match up and they showed what she could do on her own.

Tournament arcs usually show off individual characters and how they use their powers in specific situations but they just dropped the ball.

Though I guess one could argue that in reality that would happen too, just one talent completely outshines the other like that but entertainment that doesn't make

also I watched the HERO KILLER ARC

Yeah it gets called a good tournament by people who hate battles or something.

Clearly though the author did not want to create something long and drawn out. Most battles in the manga that aren't Deku are just part of montages, besides maybe Ochaco and the end.

but his matches he either won super fast or lost super fast

I will confirm that I am both someone who thinks the tournament was one of the strongest parts of the show so far and also someone who cares comparatively little about the actual action or choreography or whatever in anime battles.

Oh I loved the Tournament Arc because i just got really invested in Todoroki. I loved Todoroki vs Deku fight for everything it meant.

Tournament arc was great IMO for all things Todoroki (I hope to see other characters elevated to this degree in future arcs) and for the payoff of his fight with Deku. (Especially how it ended, major breath of fresh air for a shonen)

Others are right in saying this series doesn't really care about dragging things out and giving every character a fight. For all the action it does have I really wouldn't call MHA a battle manga in the strictest sense, it's obviously much more concerned with telling a story and it does it while wasting no time. Seeing how Stain was fucking IMMEDIATELY integrated is a good indicator of that. (Glad you enjoyed that btw, that arc was so damn sweet.)

This is why I view MHA as more a character driven drama that just so happens to be a shonen with shonen elements, Tournament Arc is a big factor in that

I think its one of those situations where the dad sucks and breaks the mom to the point where looking at her son reminded her of the dad and so she temporarily lost it and burned him

Yea I thought it was obvious what the abuse Endeavor caused on his family did but I guess not

I initially guessed that she may have been startled and saw her husband in him then decided to attack him. It came off as intentional

but when they showed the incident, she stared at him for a solid 5 or so seconds, and they never implied that was happening. She knew it was him and she threw the water on him

or maybe she saw him as a monster and attacked him. And he has two abusive parents. And half and half even sorta described her this way

but before AND after that incident, they showed her as a loving mother and he seemed to have a good opinion of her from then on

so its not really that either

Shoto's mom poured the water on Shoto's "fire" half that took after Endeavor. She basically saw the abusive Endeavor in her kid and snapped.

He does have two abusive parents. There were extenuating reasons why Shoto's mom did what she did but intentionally pouring boiling water on your kid is clearly child abuse.

They are both abusive technically but one of them did it intentionally the other snapped and went insane.

He is the one who is to blame for the whole situation.

I love a good battle but also didn't mind the tournament battles being relatively short in comparison. It's like wrestling: some matches are going to have a clear winner and you have some squashes to demonstrate that point. But then you have standouts like Ohchaco vs Bakugo which should have a clear winner but she does such an impressive job that even her loss makes her look great. It's fair to say not all of is "entertainment" per se, but from a meta level I find it entertaining because it's (hopefully) character work.

THOSE were fun because it finally showed some spotlight to the characters that haven't done anything so far

like that rock dude (or at least I THOUGHT was a rock dude) who apparently talks to animals

and that CAPTAIN DIABETES guy

didn't do much for the moth chick nor falco though :(

Pink girl is one of the most underused character ever imo.

Falco does indeed get some pretty sweet stuff later, even by up to where I've read which is like two arcs behind now I think.

There is ONE point in the future he does but for the the most yea he doesn't. Partly because I think Horikoshi (the writer) knew that most people dont like the hood, but I'm one of the ones that do like the hood so it's sad times.

so I finished the camp arc

it felt like it was a rehash of the USJ arc, BUT they were really creative on how they took out some of the enemies

especially with Multiarm man leading Falco's stand into another enemy. I was even thinking how the fuck are they gonna take out Sword teeth guy and THATS how lol

I enjoyed it

as soon as I saw the pussycats, I thought "what can they do?" and sure enough two of them were downed, one instantly lol

it also raised the stakes by having Kacchan be kidnapped

I feel like the show needs to kill off a character or two every once in awhile. I really thought Deku going a million % would've killed that guy.

But hes apparently still kicking. That COULD have raised some drama with a trainee hero, not licensed, killing someone.

but looks like they might not explore it that deep again. I was surprised they brought that rule up AGAIN with Stare-man giving the kids permission to use their powers, but it looks like theres not gonna be any major consequences for that

oh well, a missed opportunity

I don't think MHA needs to deal with the repercussions of Deku killing someone. That's just too dark for it, at least for now.

Do agree the tone is too realistic to not incorporate some character death though. You can't write this grounded and expect to pull off one piece levels of pacifism.

I just watched the end of the rescue arc and the episode after

The thing is, this is is an anomaly

Its both generic and fresh

its been (kinda) deep and shallow

Its really cool and kinda not sometimes

Its taking the genre in different directions yet it just feels like its not gonna go down as a classic

the characters are varied and cool but I don't have a favorite

and so on and so on

but after watching those episodes, it at least cemented it for me right there

I think this show is great, I like it.

Now again, the show is weird. I'm not saying I didn't like it until then, but there was just something missing that I can't point my finger on.

Every new arc brought different things and it was entertaining.

however, that end of the arc just blew me away.

but now I fear for the rest of it, can it top that? Or at least, maintain this?

I guess we'll see
