How do you write dialogue in sign language? I've googled it and there appears to be no consensus. Should I just use normal quotation marks or should I italicize the sentences without quotation marks?

That or use "<words>" like a foreign language. Something like that.

Well, what I would do is have them trace words in the air using magic runes and then find a goofy font to write all the words in

Other than that, I googled it for you and the answer seems to be that quotation marks, italics, or italics and quotation marks are all options that have precedence in several books and are considered acceptable by most in the ASL community. Take your pick I think. I could see both regular quotation marks or going with italics, no quotation marks working pretty well.

Just be consistent and you'll probably be fine.

What's the format? If this is a play, you could use stage directions as well for another option.

The best way I've seen it done is through italics after clearly stating what the other language that is being spoken is.
