Because ass is an animal, arse is a body part. British are referencing to a body part, Americans are referring to the animal. If Americans think they are calling someone a body part when they use it as an insult? Then they are getting it wrong.

Also 'Auhrs' as a pronunciation sounds more Irish than it does anywhere else in the UK, you've chosen an oddly specific way to phenetically spell it.

In my own specific accent (because there are a LOT in the U.K.)? Either 'arss' or 'ah-ss (with sounding an 'R' sound, this is formed with the 'H' shifting to an 'S' sound) maybe, depending if it's a posh accent or not, because we have a class system in the UK remember.

It's actually quite difficult to spell out a word you've only ever said out loud or spelled it when writing/typing, however the hard 'UH' sound in the word reminds me of an Irish priest swearing (see: Father Ted).
