Why do you think that is? Black people dressing up in traditional African clothing were mocked. "Its a fictional movie about a fictional place" was the boilerplate pushback against black folks who found pride in a predominantly black movie.

*BP= Black Panther

I guess blacks are in the news more often than asians? When was the last time an asian made the headlines? The guy on the united flight? Or perhaps the lady that was called "ching-chong" by her political opponent who I believe was black. Asians kind of get overlooked imo.

It probably has something to do with a different audience as well. If you had an action movie celebrating how much more awesome Asia is than the States, many of the same people would be complaining. But then black people do receive greater racism than people of Asian descent.

Keep in mind that CRA is nowhere near as big as BP. If BP were making as little as CRA, it would have caught way less flak

It's because people get bent out of shape about seeing black people who aren't poor and subservient and they felt the need to remind black people who were seeing a rare depiction of themselves that doesn't didn't fit that mold (it's odd that even in 99% of fiction, black people are poor) that it was fictional and they are at the bottom of the totem pole in real life.

That's not the only way people think about Asians and there isn't as much latent resentment towards them, so you don't get the same backlash. Plus the movie is about a group of people that could exist and isn't 1/10th as popular so that creates less chance for backlash as well.

The fictional black people I read about were often rich or advanced.

Like Fortuona, Empress of Seanchan.
