Least Favorite Smackdown Moment: Generic-ass heel promo from Becky Lynch, especially with the false recollection of Summerslam's reaction to Charlotte's win where the entire Brooklyn crowd LOUDLY BOOED Charlotte for the way she won against Becky. Come on.

EDIT: Like, they could have had something really good and maybe not unique but flavored different than everything we've got. She's got the story they've shoveled to Reigns all these years but it actually makes sense for her, and they give her awful heel ****. I don't think I've been so hyped for a post-PPV turn and then so disappointed since Damien Sandow after WrestleMania.

Nikki's definitely better than Rousey, and I'm not saying Nikki is really good either. She's certainly better than a lot of people will give her credit for though. Probably in the top 1/3 of women on the main roster imo.

Rousey's only good on a curve. With 10 years she might be good. Or she might actually get worse in that she'll start working more like a wrestler and lose a lot of the charm she was hired for in the first place like so many crossover type wrestlers have in the past.

Also finally watched Summerslam today. It was okay.

Thoughts:

AJ vs Joe was awesome. The finish being garbage I didn't even mind at all, that's how good it was. It was a cheap finish that actually made sense in a way beyond "we need to make this feud continue somehow." Easy MotN.

Brock vs Roman was probably the second best match honestly. I enjoyed it a lot. Definitely their best match since the Rollins cash in. I think Strowman not making a triple threat immediately didn't really make sense from a character perspective though, and I think Strowman triple threat would have made it better, but him being a distraction and the fast pace of the match made things actually fun which is more than you can say for most Brock vs Roman matches. Also helped it only went like 10 minutes or something.

Women's triple threat was actually really good too. It's #2 or #3 I think. I think Becky Lynch as a badass Stone Cold type face would be awesome off the reaction from her beating Charlotte down but from what I'm reading in here they just made her a generic heel which is lmao.

Rest felt largely like filler. It wasn't bad filler (well Ronda's match kinda was but it was mercifully short) so it didn't bring the show down and overall I would call it a good show. Miz vs Bryan was pretty disappointing. Didn't really do anything to make it feel special at all-- true to the build I guess.

(Did not watch pre-show-- I remember hearing the cruiser match was good but eh)

Kinda. I would probably put her on the second tier of women on the show, somewhere. Pretty firmly behind the likes of Asuka, Natalya, Mickie James, but like Nikki vs Bayley or Sasha or Ember Moon imo isn't super clean cut.

I still think she's good. Just like... the bottom tier of what could be considered good, if that makes sense. I have like no interest in her vs Ronda though cause yeah she's not really good enough to carry that.

I'm not convinced Ember deserves to be there at the moment though. She very well could since I haven't seen a lot of her NXT stuff and she's had no chance to do anything relevant on the main roster, but yeah.

I will say I think Ember pointless Raw filler matches are really bad, even relative to the competition. Like... bad enough that I think any legit good wrestler would do them better even among the worst trash fodder. She does "moves" that I guess are okay looking but seems really bad at connecting with the audience which is magnified in pointless filler matches since there isn't much to those beyond getting your shit in and trying to get the crowd into it.

I think Ember has done about as well as she can on the main roster without any clear direction. If the matches are bad, they'd be significantly worse if you replaced her with most of the roster. Including ones like Sasha and Bayley.

Yeah her matches are pointless and that's why they're bad. I get entertained watching her, but I have a hard time caring because it's obvious that her character is doing pretty much nothing right now. And for all we know, there are no plans to have her do anything.

Ember's problem is that she's very inconsistent. Give her a good opponent and a lot of time and she'll probably produce a really solid match. She can't carry a match if she doesn't have those two things, though.

I saw her wrestle quite a few times on indy shows in Texas and it was like watching two different women entirely sometimes. She's had some legit great stuff all the way down to matches that are among the worst I've ever seen anywhere.

Even more damning, just look at any woman they've called up. Asuka was the best prospect and she had to lose to Charlotte for no reason and become the dumbest person alive to lose to Carmella, Ember Moon has done nothing but make bad puns, Mandy Rose and Sonya DeVille have done absolutely nothing, and the Riott Squad has done some stuff I guess? They remain relevant?

But basically, Kairi Sane will get called up and become absolutely worthless and underutilized, just like literally everyone who gets called up from NXT. It doesn't matter if she's incredible like Asuka, who many considered the best wrestler on the roster when she was back in NXT, they will find a way to kill any and all interest.

They just suck the joy and fun out of everything with potential. It's honestly sad to watch.

So much truth here. We deserve a face (where she's booked like one, not just cheered because of management and writer incompetence) title run for Becky.

I just don't know what they'd do with Kairi if she was called up. The roster is so stacked, and Ronda is going to have a stranglehold on the Raw title until at least Mania. SD is already stacked at the top with Asuka, Charlotte, and Becky (probably more that I'm forgetting because they're not utilized much), plus Shayna will probably be called up fairly soon.

Since the writers don't seem to be capable to doing much with the women that's interesting outside of the belts (and most of the time, not even with the belts), calling up more really talented women from NXT is just going to create more of a bottleneck. They really need secondary or tag titles for the women.

At the time I could see it. But they've since done nothing but make Asuka look like a total idiot since. It's obvious to see what was going to happen the second she lost the streak though, especially to someone who frankly needed it the least of anyone else on the roster.

I think that would be the ideal option, but I guess I didn't explain that well in the first sentence. I don't trust the writers to give the women a compelling storyline without a title involved, that's why I want them to get secondary/tag titles. That's the only way I think we'll get anything outside of the main belt.

It would be great if we didn't need a title, but I see how directionless everybody is that isn't going for a belt, or how terrible the Sasha/Bayley thing is, and I just have no faith that they can give the women something without a title.
