I had this happen once, though it was because Id had a lot of medical issues and was two weeks in the hole on personal time, so if theyd kept me around I wouldnt have gotten paid anyway. Instead they just forgave the time and sent me away.

Depends on the employer and how important your job is. If your employer is bad they won't consider this, and some jobs are, frankly, not important enough to make that a consideration.

Job I'm quitting was a case management job for people with venereal diseases. I never worked in the field before, but my old position was getting eliminated so they suggested I take the payraise for the job and I did. Two days later, our director was fired. The next day, my direct boss was fired. We had an interim department director for three weeks, then a new department boss after that. This job forced a complete newcomer to be the expert in my position immediately and I couldn't do that well for either my staff or my clients -- it sucked. I hated not doing that as well as it deserved for a company I liked, and I would have defended my old job if I knew it would have happened like this. I gave it three months, but I'm out.

Finally moving back to Knoxville! Going back to an telemarketing company I used to work for that had a management position open. After not knowing what I was doing for awhile, I want something familiar for a minute while I train and better figure out if I want to stay with that company or expand again elsewhere in the city.

That was the goal! I still stay pretty steady with playwriting and just joined the Dramatists Guild -- less so with performing nowadays, but with this move it'll probably go back up.

Real talk though: despite my successes, theatre is a hard field for making money. Gotta keep a day job for now, and in the meanwhile I'll keep writing.
