Board 8 > Have there been any new elite characters created in the past 15 years?

In terms of contest strength, it seems like every single character of value (excluding those with outside rally potential) is from a series that started in the 80s or 90s. We're almost in the 2020s now, so I figured there has to be something from a game that was first created in the past 2 decades.

The strongest I can think of offhand would be... Kratos?

Shepard was the only other one I could think of that might cross that "elite" boundary.

Though I think Kratos is stronger given the latest GoW release.

No because the only people still coming here regularly are in their late 30s/40s and dont resonate with many characters from the last 10-15 years or so

Shepard's probably not as strong as he used to be either now that the series is on life support.

my experience venturing out to game boards every once in a while makes me believe that's not true

Lucario was weak in 2008. Who knows what he'd be worth now.

Not much, I imagine though. Pokemon fans are trapped in the '90s as much as the rest of the site is based on Lugia's performance in 2013.

I mean Snake is the strongest character who debuted in Brawl

but of all the characters who actually glean most of their strength from it, it's probably Ike, yeah

maybe Meta Knight but we've never really been able to see what he's capable of because he always gets bad matchups (which is ironic considering he has no bad matchups in Brawl LOLOLOLO)

Dante could be if the new Devil May Cry game comes out in time

The DmC Donte drama has made people more fond I think.

Guess he technically came out 17 years ago. I do think there's potential for a big boost there though

The last character created that would consistently do any of the criteria mentioned in the thread is probably Auron, maybe Sora. I can't think of anyone in the fifteen years that could give a close match to Auron.

GLaDOS circa 2013 might have been veering kind of close? 35.58% on 2013 Solid Snake was pretty ridiculous, although the close match for second might have helped her and Kefka look a bit better than they should have.

For comparison, Squall in 2010 got 40.83% on Snake (probably a marginally weaker Snake at that), and through Squall/Auron that same contest, Auron was projected to get 39.35%. Fox managed 32.97% on Snake in 2010.

Doubt GLaDOS is going to look anywhere near as good this time, though. Portal did pretty poorly in 2015.
