*actually reads an article*

So... it's one short (skippable) ad between episodes, and they're only advertising other shows that are on Netflix, not filling it up with typical commercials.

That honestly doesn't sound that bad to me, really.

It's a slippery slope, they aren't profitable and they are slowly making changes so they don't lose everyone at once.

It was just one little dollar raised, just one little ad, it's going to continue.

This is how it all starts.
It is just a short one between episodes.
Later it will just be one about a movie that just hit the cinema.
After that it will just be two ones.
And then it will slowly add up and get a huger variation.

If they aren't profitable, what can we do?

It's either deal with ads or eventually completely giving up the service. But I guess I got used to it with hulu.

That is always a concern, yeah. But how likely are they to push it much further considering they already got a heap of backlash just from this?

Ads suck. Also, slippery slope, death by a thousand cuts, you know, that kind of stuff.

But they just want more people to watch their originals. That is all they are doing here.

Once a service begins selling advertising, you are no longer the customer, but instead you are the product being sold.
That's the real issue here.

The automatic previews are already out of control so this is just salt on the wound.

Also, they just removed user reviews... wtf.

They were pretty useless anyway, with vast amounts of "bring this back to streaming!!" and political soap-opera noise polluting it all.

Someone starting shit on twitter, an actor getting called out on being a bit handsy thirty years ago, or a show disappearing from on-demand, would balloon any given content's user reviews from about thirty posts to a few thousand roughly overnight.

Nah, they were an easy way to gauge whether it was something I would want to watch or not.

Now all we have to go on is the % thing, which is 100% useless. Either that or look up reviews on other sites, but it ultimately comes down to reviews actually being useful.

If netflix adds ads, then adblockers will probably find a way around it.

Also, lol I'll stop using the netflix the second they add them.

So over the past year or so they've

- removed star ratings
- removed user reviews
- added auto-play previews
- added made-up % you'll like it, which is almost always over 90%

And now auto-previews to break the immersion as you're watching the thing you've already chosen to watch. Also, video previews sometimes give major spoilers. So if a preview spoils a show or movie you may actually be less likely to watch it.

How are they not profitable? They added like 7 million to their originals budget over the next few years, and they've been slowly cutting back on licensed content, especially in places like Canada here. I have a feeling that this 'they aren't profitable' thing is absolute hogwash to guilt us into being okay with commercials.

I'll just never understand the decisions big companies like this make. It makes absolutely no sense. Youtube is on a similar role with their failings.
