there are some hotties around, however most of them are uhh, not into the average straight guy. there's also the whole thing about how the big thing in furry right now is to become transgender or nonbinary, which can throw a wrench into plans. it's definitely uhh, messed up some of my plans before.

It varies. There's all kinds of stuff. Karaoke parties, proper gambling etiquette, how to make a fursuit, running a business, how to do furry art commissions for a living, introduction to gay pup play. It's all over the place.

everyone hates each other for very silly, minor reasons. and not to delve into political discourse, but everyone is a different level of the leftist political spectrum, so even if you agree on 99% of everything, that 1% difference will tear your relationship apart.

Sad to hear. I was under the impression it would be fun to go and not have connections. I found 2017 far more fun because I didn't have to worry about which of my friends hate which of my other friends for weird, esoteric things. Friend A made a callout post about Friend B's girlfriend, and she couldn't become because of the callout post because everyone hated her, so Friend B hated him and kept making weird threats at him the entire con, and it was extremely awkward for everyone in our group.

But yeah. Just absolutely exhausting. Want to go back in time to when I was 12 and prevent myself from ever joining a Sonic anime fan-forum that had furries on it.

I thought you were a reformed ex-furry, maybe just because you've expressed disliking furries. I can understand it. It doesn't seem like they're much worse than other groups of nerds but that's a pretty low bar. I try not to be too negative, though, since I have a sense of belonging with my own groups of nerds. Some of them just suck.

I've spent most of my life at this point at least being involved in the community. I didn't actually meet furries or hang out with them regularly until a few years ago though. They aren't much worse than other groups, in a lot of ways they're much better. Every community sucks, I guess. I do sound kind of harsh on them, but in a way I guess I feel bitter about things lately. But I can't imagine things getting better.

There is a guy who is like 45 and has a family, lives in Seattle and does some kind of tech translation work. He has this cutesy Japanese mascot-style fursuit, and he makes youtube videos of himself talking in cringey Japanese.

this matches my limited experience! I have only encountered the latter kind (they would go to denny's every week, hog a section of the restaurant, be obnoxious, not tip, and then have drug orgies or smth in a van out back) but wifebolo went to a con once with some friends and had a generally postivite experience

in my experience, furries are extremely generous with tipping and being kind to service workers(at this point, a majority of furries either have worked or continue to work in retail/food service, so they get it), but there's this notorious subsection that just treats employees of places like garbage, and treat public spaces like its their own playground funhouse.
