When Dylann Storm Roof ended Bible study at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina and unleashed a hurricane of bullets, he secured himself a place in the dark history of young, white American males who kill strangers indiscriminately. Of course, we've known for some time that most violent crimes are committed by young people, and that men are more violence-prone than women, but in recent cases like Roof's, Sandy Hook's Adam Lanza, and the Aurora Theater's James Holmes, it seems like this newer breed of psychopath is more dangerous than its predecessors.

When trying to decipher gun violence, it's tempting to focus on impoverished minority neighborhoods defined by structural woes like mass incarceration, poverty, lack of education, and so on. But research shows that mass shootings are primarily committed by white malesthe most privileged class in society. So why are they the ones who snap? And is calling them "mentally ill" a way to avoid talking about race?

"If you look at how the James Holmes case has played out, it's amazing how the themes [of other shootings] line up," true-crime author Stephen Singular, who collaborated with his wife, Joyce, on the new book The Spiral Notebook: The Aurora Theater Shooter and the Epidemic of Mass Violence Committed by American Youth, tells VICE. "Most of these young white shootersthey're not underprivileged, they have so many advantages, particularly in the Holmes case. He was dealing with an inner reality that he didn't know how to contend with."

As Mother Jones reported, "Since 1982, there have been at least 70 mass shootings across the country... Forty four of the killers were white males. Only one of them was a woman." So white men have been responsible for about 63 percent of mass shootings in that span, despite comprising a far smaller portion of the total population. And while the motives for mass murder vary from perpetrator to perpetrator, since the Columbine school shooting in 1999, there has been a remarkable consistencyif not uniformityin the age, gender, and race of the people who carry out these egregious crimes.

According to FBI arrest data, the peak ages for violent crime is 1624. "This is a period of substantial transition in an individual's life, when they're less likely to have significant attachments in their life that deter them from criminal violence," Pete Simi, an associate professor of criminology at the University of Nebraska, tells VICE. "Those of us who are not committing crimes on a regular basis, [it's] largely because there are constraints in our liveswe have things to lose."

This is a sad attempt at trying to make mass shootings by white men look disproportionate. When you exclude the female population (which account for a negligible number of mass shooters), and only factor in the male population, white males are actually under-represented as mass shooters. Basically, white males account for 60% of the male population in the US, but only 55% of mass shooters from the period between 2000-2017 based on data collected by Mother Jones. And that 55% includes hapas like Elliot Rodger and Lebanese Arabs like John Zawahri.

Yeah it's a pretty fair question. If white men do more mass shootings then why are white men still being outclassed in the murder statistic? Sounds like they just have a higher completion% and more YPA, which is why they're more wanted at the QB position.

They'll retort with, "but but..white males are not 60% of the population!". That's what the article does in order to falsely portray white men as "over-represented" in this type of crime. What they are too stupid to realize is that if you just compare the male population of the US (exclude females entirely), the math works out about the same.

It's more of a "How did you raise your child" issue.

Too many kids were raised under the "we're all special, everybody is a winner, we all get participation trophies non-sense".

They weren't taught useful values like:
- Traditional values of hard work & dedication
- Accept the reality that not everybody can be a winner (Too much success bias influence)
- That there will always be people better than you despite the amount of hard work you may put in
- Learn to be a graceful loser
- Learn to respect others along with human lives
- Learn to co-exist in society with all sorts of other people and be peaceful with people who are different
- Violence should always be a absolute last resort and not used on petty things like losing a video game competition
- Life should be sacred and not treated trivially
- Learn to see things from other peoples perspectives, not just be selfish and only look at your own PoV.
- Life is about long term, not short term events like the results of a "Video Game Competition"
Just look at the San Diego incident where a young 18 y/o YouTuber who was a CS:GO skins trader lost his account and took his Ferrari and headed in the wrong direction to kill himself and others which resulted in the death of a Mother & young child.
- Learn to be respectful, sportsman-like, honorable, & humble in a competitive scene.
