If you want to know what made me decide I'd never go back, it's when I was getting ESTA permits for my wife and her family coming from Japan. First I got my wife's permit. I searched using google, and the first result was the official government website that got me the permit for her. When I got her family's permit, I was at her dad's computer which was still using Explorer as its main browser. I put it in the search bar and noticed it was Bing but was like eh, it's the same thing in the end. However the first result was actually a scam site designed to look like the official US site that hid the value, and after I'd processed payment it included a 200% markup in "service charges" or some nonsense! Fortunately I was able to cancel the payment. Looking at the site I also saw that the URL was not a .gov site. Going back to the search I found that the actual proper government site was on page two. Yes, I got more than a whole page of scam sites in front of the real one. I went back and did the same search in google, and the first result was the proper government site, as it had been before. IE had standards they were just its own standards that weren't compliant with W3C standards so you could write web pages that worked on literally every browser except IE--which was the most common browser at the time. OR you could make it work in IE but break it for every other browser. OR you could triple your development time by finding a way to use a hacked up combination of JavaScript and CSS to make your pages work properly on all browsers. Your call. These days all browsers are W3C compliant with standards. The only difference is the native plugins that are supported and adoption of HTML5, ES5, and whatever the latest DOM is. Chrome and Edge are ahead of the game on adopting new tech. Edge is just lacking in general add-on support. It's a decent browser. I prefer Bing's non-web results to Google's (Images, videos, etc).
